Tangie's - 3 Room Reno Journey

Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request

Intended to get the LG for my house as recommended by Harvey Norman salesperson. But I have compare the price in HN, Courts & zero (Renotalk forummer) Will be getting this frm zero as he give a gd price.

Same here! The LG was recommended by the salesman at Harvey Norman. Seems like they are pushing for LG brand. Zero's price is very competitive but when it comes to reliability, will it be as good as those electronic stores?

I just bought a washer/dryer from zero recently. Price is good, no delivery charge, disposed old machine at no cost, delivery time arranged fast. He respond to sms very fast. As for the stuff you are buying, the warranty is covered by the manufacturer same as from electronic stores...the only thing is pay by cash. Anyway...this is just my experience....just to share.

Hi Minnielt, to be fair to Mr K, I cant provide you the breakdown of the reno cost. You can always get a quote from him. :)

Hi AnW, like mentioned abv, I cant provide breakdown cost as to be fair to Mr K.

I will share my experience with you. I was like you, all hyped up to have my reno done by him after seeing so many gd reviews from many forumers here. In fact, I love those houses that he brought me to, spoken to the owners (all very satisfied ) and was so eagerly waiting for my reno to start... well this is my first hse/reno, I have no ground for comparison but I do feel that he is a little too busy to oversee my project.

All of the hiccups I mentioned above happened when he wasn't ard (actually most of the time he is not there). He just arranged for the workers to go up and get the work done (be it electrician, painter, tilers or whatsoever). IF he was present, probably wont have those hiccups...idk.. this is just a what if ...

Most of the time we wouldnt know what will be done and when. We targeted to move in before new year (reno started on 3 Oct) so we tend to chase him for things, no time to wait for his "surprise". Communication was via phone calls and whatsapp (my walls colors, choice of tile), except for laminates and doors which I insisted a meet up.

I dont know how to defined top quality carpentry, but my carpentry is not as perfect as what I had imagined it to be, considered the price I paid. (it has yet to be touched up)

Probably I should share some photos of the "not so perfect areas" for the experienced forumers to comment?

I believed if you can get his time and devotion to your house plus you are not in a hurry to move, it is very likely to turn out very beautiful...

I just got him at the "peak period"... so call right person, wrong time? hahaha..

Hi Tangie,

Understand your situation totally as im in the same situation as well. Started the reno about the same time as you but there was alot of waiting and chasing and waiting and chasing.

We tried to be understanding that he is busy but he seems a little too over busy. We are also targeting before CNY to complete and the timeline we were given to complete was mid Jan, 3 months of renovation. Each time he has 1 worker overseeing the house at a time, our concrete / tiling work was done by 1 worker this whole time.

Would say that your renovation progression is consider fast as compared to ours.

Hi plainsharon, actually quote comforting to know that im not alone (oops). But I really understand that kind of frustration that comes along.

I really chased... mainly because I got chased by the mister, and bo bian I chase Mr K...

We do understand he is busy, work tend to be slower. That's ok. But he doesnt tell us the timeline, we cant plan the delivery date for appliances and furnitures. Instead of waiting for him to give the green light, I tell him the date xxx items will arrive and expect xxx to be done by then.

Spotted quite a few areas to touch up. A bit of disappointment.. if he had more time to do the inspection and rectified those areas before I could spot them, then like many forumers, I would probably agree that his work is of top notch quality.

Sadly, we were the one who spotted those... but whenever we feedback, if manpower allows, he would get the workers to rectify it very quickly. Example, we told him that some of the kitchen cabinet door hits another door or hood, and the next time we went up, there was already rubber stopper...

I also cut down on the carpentry, could be because it's less so it's faster.. are you doing alot of carpentry or hacking work?

Hi kaykay, it's inclusive in the quote.

The interior (should be just pvc, not laminate) was actually suggested by Mr K. We didn't want white but at the same time don't have any idea on what is nice too. So just went along with his suggestion. Quite please with the outcome.

Good idea I like it as it better than white that dirty easily.

Our renovation sort of comes to an end... pending for the final round of washing on Wednesday and a mass meetup with all the workers to touch up/rectify the problems.

Appliances and furnitures will be delivered after the washing!

Its good that someone understand the frustration at times.

I have chased Mr K so many times that he says that im like his assistant, like you mentioned, no choice, we need to know certain days for delivery, aircon installation etc.

But once he get things arranged, its pretty fast executed. As he is a contractor not a ID, maybe thats why he does not have a drafted timeline.

My Hubby and I might not be so detail so have yet to spot any huge areas for touch up.

But some of the tiling work his worker done, not sure if its suppose to be like that or touch up is needed. for e.g the round cutting btw tap or floor's sewage pipe, the tile cutting part does not seems so nice and round. Suppose to install sliding door but the aircon box up block the sliding door from opening. L box eats up our track lights area. All these are not possible for touch up and we could only work around it. But other than that the rest are fine.

We have yet to measure for our carpentry and Mr K is going overseas next week for a week. WE have to cover for Mr K and alias with his sub con so that nothing much get delay.

We are doing more on hacking and concrete / tiling work. carpentry not much. Except for Tv console, kitchen's internal drawers and cabinets, MBR's walk in waredrobe and bay window.

Almost few steps behind from yours.

Sometimes waiting for K's green light might be a little too long.

Waiting for more of your photos to be up, its always exciting to see Mr. K projects. :good:
