Remote Control For Ceiling Fan Is Dead

Hi,

Hope someone can help me. We have a ceiling fan which we bought 3 years ago - forgot the brand and can't locate the receipt. The ceiling fan comes with a remote control and last week, it stopped working! The remote control was very hot when we tried turning the fan on and we tried resetting it to no avail.

When we press the remote control, the light on the remote control lights up but the fan doesn't move.

So now I'm wondering if it's the remote control problem or the fan problem? The master switch won't turn the fan on either.

Should I just buy a new fan or is there a way to fix/bypass the remote control? I'm uhm, not particularly savvy when it comes to these. Hope to hear some suggestions.
