Relaminate Kitchen Cabinets Or Replace The Kitchen Cabinet

I just did my kitchen reno, hacked and changed all the cabinets. The safest colour is white.  😄 my previous house I chose gloss white. This time I did matte white but opted for a premium range. You will never go wrong. Other parts of my house I also wanted to change the laminate but my contractor said change the whole door is more worth as the price is not much diff. So I went ahead with that. Turned out good, cos the insides also nice...got laminate and new hinges, so has a new feel.

If you want a cheap way to change the laminate, I suggest buying gloss laminate sticker from Shopee. I tried before on small surfaces but it is seriously not easy to apply it on nicely without bubbles. Maybe I'm not experienced but it was also v time consuming.and the overall look is not that good if you look closely. But from far is ok. Cos you must trim the edges well.

I'm sorry to hear about your laminate issues. If you're on a tight budget, re-laminating might be a cost-effective option. However, be aware that painting over laminates can be tricky and might not give the best finish. It might be worth getting a few quotes from different carpenters for re-lamination or even checking out IKEA for affordable replacement doors. Additionally, consider reaching out to carpenters recommended by other RenoTalk members for professional advice. Good luck with your kitchen makeover!

Re-laminating cabinets with ABS trimming is definitely possible. Here are some tips to ensure a successful project:

  1. Preparation: Make sure the surface is clean and free from any dirt or grease before starting.
  2. Heat Gun: Use a heat gun to soften the adhesive on the old laminate carefully to avoid damaging the plywood underneath.
  3. Skilled Carpenter: Hiring a skilled carpenter experienced in re-lamination can make a significant difference. Many RenoTalk members have recommended reliable carpenters, so you might want to check their suggestions.

Good luck with your project!
