Ceiling Ruined By Renovation Upstairs

Recommended Posts

I need some advice. My ceiling is ruined by renovation works upstairs. I only moved in 3 months ago and checked that everything was in good condition before I bought the resale unit. My ceiling is nicely painted just 3 months ago. Now, due to my upstairs neighbours renovation, there are ugly patches and spots on my ceiling and it smells awful too. I called their renovation contractor Earnest Interiors who said this is very common and they will repaint my ceiling for me (like they are doing me a big favour). My worry is this is a temporary measure. When the people upstairs move in and start cooking and washing, the situation will get worse. I called HDB who said in future if this happens I will have to co-pay with upstairs to rectify it. This is so unfair to me because my ruined ceiling is a result of upstairs renovation contractors not doing a proper job! What should I do now? Also, how do I get rid of the foul smell? I asked Earnest Interiors if I can spray air freshener on the ceiling they say better just put room fragrance. Anyone has any experience and can advice?

Hi Jackky, their water proofing did in the kitchen or toilet might be leaking. or the main sewage elbow piping are leaking. you may want to check from your kitchen access false ceiling panel.
