I've a small backyard, around 5m x 2m. The floors are already tiled. I'm thinking of enclosing the whole backyard and convert it to a wet kitchen.

I'm thinking of either using a tiled roof or extending the aircon ledge on the 2nd floor to become the roof. Which is a better option or what other options i can consider?

Roughly how much would such a job cost?

What you are thinking to do, is an illegal alteration. I know that many people did it anyway.

The other option is to remove the floor tile, sanitize the soil, and plant some trees.

Cheers!

I've done an ALU-polycarbonate roof at the back. I've enough setback but I've also seen many enclosed areas that don't. You shouldn't have a problem unless your neighbor complains. What usually happens in sg is a unit does something and the neighbor starts to copy and soon the whole stretch has the same. I doubt the BCA would come down hard for no reason.

Did some reading up... does awnings need to maintain the setback distance too?

Retractable probably ok.

Fixed type need to have setback.

If in doubt, check with BCA but most likely they will say need the setback.

In the midst of looking for a cheap alternative too. My builder did glass with Steel supports for me but cannot completely enclose, must have 1m setback. So now 2yr pass, TOP and CSC over, wanted to enclose entire backyard, connect a new shelter with existing class one. Expensive sia. Wanted the "waterfall" to be outside my boundary wall into the longkang between me and my opposite neighbor house.

Tempered glass 1m x 7m & steel supports = 9k

Polycarbonate 1m x 7m & aluminium supports = 4k

Honestly, is 4k fair? Or are there cheaper alternatives beside wood support? Coz just trying to enclose the area to protect my washing machine and dryer. My fil said it's silly because washing machine and dryer is cheaper than the roof extension.

hmm... the rear setback I thought is 2m? Can I check the existing glass and steel structure, it is just to roof only and does not cover the sides and rear?
