MHB 3 Report post Posted April 23, 2013 I totally agree. If you're planning to stay in this place for a good while, spend the money and do what you need done, because it's going to be much better than wanting to change it later after you move in. Tiles were a must change for us because we couldn't stand the old "obiang" look of the original ones, and the aircon was a must-go because aircons break down whenever, so it's wise to just change it now since you're not living in it yet. Trying to change aircon later after moving in is going to be such a pain. All the best with your renovation! I agree with the changing of the Obiang tiles. Will show the photo of the tiles when I have time to upload the photos. Jiawei says he will inspect the tiles again to see if it is viable to overlay...After receiving the constructive suggestions from all the other forummers here, I have decided to change the air con... MHB 3 Report post Posted April 30, 2013 Still waiting for my renovation to start.... Waiting for HDB approval.... In the meantime, have been shopping for lights and tap...I bought a Grohe blue kitchen tap from Insani and the experience was rather hassle free, received it within 1 week after I placed an order and the discount was almost 30-40%...After I had made the payment, then I realize there are quite a number of negative comments and I freak out when I could not track my parcel using DHL website... I emailed insani and the customer service side replied with 1 working day...quite impressed by the customer service... Will definitely but from them again... HeheMy wifey really wanted this tap, maybe inspired by some blogs she read online...Then I also have been sourcing for lights from Tao Bao... Really thankful for the sharing from fellow forummers...The light I saw along Balestier road cost about 250 dollars but it costs about 100 dollars which shipping on Tao Bao!!!!Will post some photos on my purchase hehe

MHB 3 Report post Posted May 22, 2013 Finally, after almost 3 weeks of waiting, my reno has started.......It was delayed due to the re-submission for the hacking permit to include the hacking of the wall between the service yard and the kitchen.... Now, the first unfortunate thing happened... the stiffener cannot be hacked .... I was given a false hope when the hacker talked to Jiawei that the stiffener can be hacked away and today, he says that it cannot be hacked ... Nevertheless... we do have plan B... That is to lay a wooden plank between the stiffener and the wall.. My wifey brilliant idea as she want to seat on the ledge while waiting for the food to be cooked, eg, maggie mee, and she is very proud of it....The picture of the stiffenerYesterday, my wifey and I have a meeting with Jiawei to finalize on the selection of the toilet wall tiles. Now, kinda stuck between the two types of tilesWhite hexagonal glossy tilesBlack hexagonal matt tilesquite worried about water stain mark for the Matt black tiles and the shop doesn't carry glossy black hexagonal tilesHow??? Anyway, Jiawei mention that he has hand over all the project on hand and the next project starts in June... So he can focus fully on mine Hopefully, everything will turn out well!! MHB 3 Report post Posted May 22, 2013 Another wonderful thing happened...Initially, the window grills left by the previous owner are really ugly, not suitable to our theme.... However, due to very tight budget, we chose to keep the window grills as my mum worried about the safety of our future offspring....,Then, i found out that my mother in law single-handedly removed all the window grills by herself.... About 10 panels at least for all the window by mistake ... I really wonder how did she manage to do that as the window grills are quite heavy...... And the BEST part is, she promised to pay for our house new window grill ...Must salute her!!The picture of the window grillHaha.. will meet up with the representative of Peng Giap on sat to discuss about the slim window grill that offered by the company...Is it good???? Any feedback??? The window can be customised though...I read from the forum that the company is quite good! shall see...

Hey MHB,I'm not sure about Peng Giap's window grilles but I have chosen this popular grilles specialist in the forum. His name is Andy. Maybe you can approach him for a second opinion. His quote is not expensive and he's a friendly dude. You can refer to this thread for his services (http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/49500-home-aluminium-metal-works/page-4).Happy reno journey! 3Dyms 1 Report post Posted May 23, 2013 OMG! You mean your MIL ownself pulled the grills off the windows herself without any help? She must be really strong siah. As for Pang Giap, pls do a search. Cos I remember reading quite a few negative reviews on their workmanship. Then when things go wrong, they refused to rectify. Maybe can try getting quotes from other window grill company too. *good luck* Another wonderful thing happened...Initially, the window grills left by the previous owner are really ugly, not suitable to our theme.... MHB 3 Report post Posted May 23, 2013 All the best for a smooth sailing building of ur love nest... Keep those pics coming! Cheers! By the way, wat do u mean by u mil removed all the window grills "by mistake"? Kekeke!Oh.. Initially I ask my MIL whether she would like to tear down the rack in my store room so that she can sell the metal (by the way, my MIL takes up garang guni as a hobby)... So she say okay and she went ahead the next day when both my wifey and I were at work... My wifey messaged me in the evening that her mum had removed all the grills by herself on that day... I was like shocked because the grills were not just removed from the track but also from the house... A total of 10 panels at least... Really 巾帼不让须眉... Even Jiawei was taken by surprise when we told him that our MIL removed the grills by herself as he knows it is not a easy job...
