This is because silicones have slight porosity that allows water, micro-organisms and spores etc to attach itself to the surface of the sealant

Silicone is already water resistant so how can mould attach to it?

In my case i use something called HCL89.

I usually get it from http://hcl89.byethost10.com or http://hcl89.atwebpages.com

What it does is that it cleans your wall tiles/glass and also helps to create a protection for it so that always remains new.

Had the same algae/mold and hard water stains problem same as TS, so i purchased the HCL89 thing from http://hcl89.byethost10.com as recommended

I used it a couple of months back and so far the algae/mold and hard water stains problem seems to be gone

The thing with silicone is that the water resistance breaks down after few years, causing mold to seep in

Silicones have slight porosity, ie tiny holes which allow the spores to attach itself to the silicon. If it is not cleaned, it will turn mouldly after some time. The silicon itself is still water resistant, but the bonding to the surface that it is attached to may be worn out.

Anti mould silicone can help as these contains some fungicide to kill the mould but not sure how long it can last. My personal experience is 1-2 years, but there are people who claimed to last 5-10 years. My guess is depending on how humid the surface is (?)

But before you seal it make sure the mould spores are killed first else the mould will start to infect the silicon too
