Tiny House For A Small Family

Recommended Posts

Been reading and learning through many posts about home renovations for quite sometime, and thought that I can contribute and share to many forummers on my current home renovations especially to the 3 roomers.

I've gotten my keys from HDB on March this year. Its a really tiny house from HDB nowadays. But I guess i just have to compensate with a more minimalist designs.

For a new 3 room of today, there isn't much space available. Thus, when i am looking my design theme, i have to keep it very simple, bright and airy. I love false ceiling and how i can conceal a lot of wirings within. But, due to the space constraints, I have to forgo installing of false ceiling as it would make the whole house smaller.

some basic stuff to be done:

1. overlay kitchen tiles

2. tv wall feature + console

3. cabinet with a parapet **** room(for fengshui items! :P )

4. wardrobe

5. kitchen cabinets

6. laminating floors (living room and all bedrooms)

Hi! Am looking forward to your reno journey.

My 3 room flat will only be ready in year 2017. Hahahaha...

How many people will be living in your house? Honestly I'm quite afraid for my future kids..

Scared that the place won't be big enough for them :(

And how come there's a pool below your block?

Hi sgmeow. There will be 3 people living in the small flat. I'm not sure if I will top up another one in the near future, but in any case, i have bought a bunker bed system from Nova for standby. Quite value for money! hee hee.

Anyway, did your house comes with prefix bathroom doors? If it doesn't, perhaps you can think of making a bifold type. My current toilet door is very big and pose quite an obstacle while opening and closing.

Haha... actually that pool doesn't belongs to our estate! its actually from the condo just directly opposite mine. If not for the condo fence, its just a mere 30 steps distance! haha :P

After much considerations and consultations from friends, i have made the decision of laminating the whole unit (except the kitchen area). I have shopped for my own laminate instead of thru the ID. Source it from a laminate company in Geylang. Good service and works! My unit flooring came very raw and there is no cement screeding done. The salesgirl advised me to approach HDB for a free cement screeding. And true enough, its free! Saving away more than $1k if screed by contractor. :yamseng:

However the drawbacks - waiting for 2 weeks!

For small unit like mine, they took just slightly more than half a day to complete it!

Arrival of laminates.

Installing of laminates

In the end, I choose to do a total streamline of laminates from living room to all the bedrooms without the "bridge" segregating each rooms.

Finally, all done up! Workmanship satisfied!

Try try to purchase a so-call "authentic" kohler sink for my bathroom from taobao. Wah, quite surprise to see it as real as it can be. The whole feeling is very solid. :good: Hopefully when it is installed, it can be as solid and won't rust that easily.

Actually I have not even selected my flat yet. Going to select in June! Hahaha.

I was thinking of opting for the OCS scheme for flooring, but not sanitary fittings and doors. What do you think?

The doors + sanitary fittings so ugly that even my partner (who is chin chai type) also agree with me.

And where got people use wooden doors for toilet one? So yeah. I was thinking of installing the bifold type next time too :)

Ur unit seems very high, which level is that? Not bad got pool view hahah.

Currenly only me and my partner, but Im afraid our future kids won't have enough space to study or do their stuff. (only thinking of 2 kids max)

And all the rooms look very small.... :(

I see the MBR, put a queen sized bed and the house room no space already. How?

yup actually honestly speaking, the current build of the 3 room HDB is very small. For 2 kids, its really pushing to the max! there is just so little space to expand and the only space to expand is upwards. So you have to consider those bunker beds or hidden beds..

I think you can ask around for quote for doing flooring + sanitary. Actually.. if you could be hardworking enough, you can get good price too. haha.. if you dun mind to take some risks, those sanitary items you can buy from taobao.. i've got my basins, tap, kitchen tap all from taobao. I was also intending to buy my lightings from taobao... but after asking from some friends of mine. I decide to get from local instead. Reasons being, if the glass of the pendant broke, there is no avenue of refund or anything.

My unit is on the 30-something storey. The space is small, the only plus point is the view thats all...sigh..

anyway, keep in touch. I have been thru some ups and downs from my current home reno, esp from my ID :furious:

so next time, if you are looking to reno or what, i can share some lobang on how you can save money! :yamseng:
