Beware Of This Cctv Contractor

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Please be wary of this CCTV contractor:

Company: CCTV System Solution

Biz Reg: 53209585E

Contact Person: Simon (HP: 84792215)

The works done by Simon is very bad. He quoted a relatively cheaper package and he will be very enthu in securing the order. But after the installation is done, the web access failed after a few days and the PVC trunking started dropping off from the wall. When called him, he say he will come down but just keep putting aeroplane. After a while, he will just ignore the call and if he does pick up, he will start screaming and scolding in the phone. Totally pissed off. Now the Small Claims Court granted an order for the full refund. But he is still ignoring his call and not coming down to remove the set.

All CCTV companies are required to have a relevant license issued by SPF. When I asked Simon, he said that he has one but he cannot remember the license number. I trusted him because since he is a proper registered business. But after everything happened, I called up SPF to check on this company, but SPF side said that they have no records of any license issued to this company. And his business address at Sims Avenue is also not valid one.

Please be wary of this company. And to all out there, always ask for their SPF license number. Its a License Number in the format L/PS/YYYY/XXXXXX.

I have photos to show the standard of the installations but I don't really know how to upload here. Haha :P

Regards to all.

I am sorry to hearing that Jhthng that have the trouble in engaging CCTV Contractor.

Actually, my friend had engaged another contractor to do the installation job for his flat, but end up so many problems, such as router problem, mobile problem, Window 64 bit problem and so on. And worst, the contractor company closed down with 2 years onsite warranty for my friend.

Due to his unfortunate encounter, I have done a little bit of research before award our home cctv to the existing contractor to do the installation work 6 months ago.

A few of thoughts before you decide.

1) Look for a company that has been operating the business for many years. Normally, you can tell from the RCB No for Private Limited Company. This will help to reduce the chances of getting a fly-by-night company.

2) If you require remote access viewing, you will require strong IT Network Knowledge Support from the same company.

3) Last but not least, look for a user-friendly software recorder. I would recommend a Korea Brand or at least Taiwan.

yes, be careful when selecting CCTV installer. As most company sub contract the installation job out, they are not fully responsible if things screwed up. Few area to take note:

* does the company have full time installer?

* for conceal job, better ask for photos and detail planning how they will hack and patch up. A lousy job could cost you dearly in future (like wall crack, poor planning and unnecessary hacking, etc)

* Read the machine spec clearly. Some will try to promote old cameras. Do invest in a good recorder, preferably one that permit pan-tilt function. (some machine does but dealer simply turn it off and sell it as a adds-on).

* Ask exactly where and how the lines will be laid? Have that written down.

* last but not least, make sure that the software is compatible with your router or broadband (yes, mine did not work well with Singnet only!) Also, ask about software support. They could sell you cheap but make you pay each trip you call them.

Hi folks,

we installed our own CCTV in our home. During our renovation, we got our electrician to run ready made CCTV cablings which we bought from GG at sim lim tower. Our recorder which we also bought from GG is by AVtech & it is made in Taiwan. However, our cameras are normal in quality. If u require very high definition ones, u might want to try out SAMSUNG which is going to cost a huge bomb. I was quoted SGD 150 with just 1 year warranty for a SAMSUNG CCTV camera with infra-red (for night vision). As for the remote access in viewing what's going on at home while we are out of the house, we are using the eagleeyes program - However, our network with Singtel is... lousy. :(

Another good buy for a wireless CCTV is foscam. No drilling is required. I think DIY installation is definitely possible. The resolution is great & a lot better than ours which had cablings concealed in our false ceiling. I've seen the quality of image on screen on my friend's iphone. It was really very sharp & very very clear. However, no recording mechanism.

aside to jhthng - poor u. I hope that your cctv problems have been resolved already. It's a real nightmare to have engaged unqualified installers.
