Ventilation Ducts For Your Kitchen Hood!

I talked to a F&B Manager about installing kitchen Hood in my HDB flat, and he said many Singaporean home owners commit the mistake of not

making sure that ventilation duct are installed to the back or top of the kitchen exhaust fan to vent it outside of the kitchen. Thereby making the kitchen hood useless in many cases and spoiling faster. In some ductless units, the kitchen cabinets get very sticky and oily too.

I have been googling about this and saw that he is right :

Before you install that kitchen exhaust fan, think about the ducting requirements. Although ductless units are available, they generally don't work well. You'll have to install ducting to the back or top of the kitchen exhaust fan to vent it outside. Vent the exhaust hood either through the wall or the ceiling.

I am going to talk to the ID firm about this, but would like to hear about any others who have experience in building the ducting requirements in their HDBs. Would it be allowed under HDB regulations?

I am not going with chimney hood for my kitchen design. But will go with conventional hood.

Just want to ask if anyone builts a vent in their cabinet for their conventional hood like the one here below as shown in the picture :

Anyone knows the rationale behind this rule? So that the vented air does not get blown to your neighbour's service yard?

I have been using ducting out for my kitchen exhaust for my last three homes, and it is excellent. But unfortunately, I think it is not allowed for HDB and most condos.

Just in case you are in a position to do this, note the following:

1. Must buy the duct out model of the cooker hood. Many makes have two models, one for circulation, one for ducting out. Typically, the duct out model does not have those filters.

2. Most kitchen contractors are not familiar with ducting out hoods. They do not know what to do. You have to supervise

3. Some models do not come with the ducting tube. You must buy separately.

4. Use aluminium tape for taping. Your contractor will likely use normal masking tape.

5. You have to buy the external exhaust grille yourself. If possible, get one that can open/close. I had that for my previous place, but for my current place, I was not able to find it.

Anyone can advice where to buy pvc duct hose for kitchen hood?

Tried many hardware shop but fail.
