Mdisappear 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2012 Here are some basic tips for first-timers for engaging contractors - 1. Check his HDB/BCA license, make sure quotation paper is given under the name of the licensee. When in doubt, check with HDB/BCA.2. Verify that the address of the contractor is a valid address, eg ACRA registered address for a company. 3. Ask for itemised quotation.4. Make sure receipts are issued in the name of licensee. Do not make cash payment, always pay to licensee's account, not the contractor's individual account.5. Make sure he lists down detailed schedule and monitor against that.6. Put payment schedule as one of the clauses of the contract and make sure % payment is in accordance to renovation progress. Do not over-pay.7. I ever encountered a terrible contractor who exploited my kindness and took most of the money and run away, leaving almost half of the items uncompleted or with problems. Almost all of his business partners are complaining about about his non-payment/late payment/bounced cheque etc. Some told me there are a few home owners who ended up with their reno work uncompleted too. If you are interested to avoid him, here are some tips: his pink IC number is S74xxxx5G, birthday Nov 21, extremely fat.
