Carpentry Work For My Masterbed Room

Recommended Posts

After spending 10 months without a wardrobe. Thanks to Clo---Design for their sluggish response even after paying 40% down payment. Also thanks to Fer---Design for their no show. I finally engaged TYAS design. I have never expect such fast response and even a 3D drawings within 3-4 days.

This is my 3rd renovation experience for my residence. It's quite nerve racking after a terrible experience with D--w-- Interior which cost me $21k for a kitchen with inferior materials, wrong dimension and 10 days delayed. I'm really very careful with my selection of the designer. Cause I'm still suffering from their lousy work. My dish tray is dripping again and this is the 4th time!!!

What TYAS quoted me. The price is $8450 for a 9 ft TV console with dresser, 8 ft wardrobe, bookshelf with doors, 2 bedside tables, LED lights, demolition works, accessories for wardrobe and electrical works.

But most importantly, I'm happy with their response and knowing that I've been without a wardrobe for so long, they are trying to get the job done within 2 weeks despite their very busy year end schedule. That's the kind of service that you can hardly find with most ID nowadays.

Will post the updates and some pictures soon. Thanks for reading. :-)

The carpenter came down twice after the first measurement. Firstly is due to the design I made for my tv console, then they came down again to ensure the handle that I selected is the correct one. On top of that, they fixed my kitchen cabinet for me. The kitchen was done 2 years ago by D--W-- interior. I'm so happy TYASDESIGN fixed it after all the rust and failed soft closing I have to bear for almost 2 years. Imagine my window lock fell off and I was so afraid as I've young kids around. I have to tie it with rope and keep chasing D--W-- to get it fixed. These are things you can expect from D--W-- and worst.

This weekend TYASDESIGN is coming to demolish my cabinet and seal up one of the top hung window. And next Thursday, I'll have my long waited wardrobe and all new furnitures.

Hope they do a good job, so that I can happily post some pictures to share here. ;-P

Finally, the carcass are here at 3pm. The workers started immediately but at a slow pace as there are lots of discussion with the electrician and ourselves. To our surprise, the electrician hired by TYASDESIGN did not come with all the required sockets, switches and LED lightings which are already included in the agreement. Hence, my husband ended getting all the switches and sockets instead. We called the ID and ensure that he provides all the led lightings but he was unable to get the lighting for my dresser as promised. So, my hubby will be running here and there tomorrow and hopefully he will be able to find it.

Another issue that really upset me was that there was an error in the construction of my dresser. I have emailed to the ID and hopefully, he will give me a satisfactory reply soon.

Here are some pics on the WIP.

Thank you, IKEA! My hubby managed to find all the LED lightings under one roof. 2 LED lightings for the bedside table, 2 Auto sensor for the wardrobe and one for the dresser. Total cost $320.20 including cables which need to be bought separately.

Today the carpenters supposed to come at 11am. But the electrician came at 9.30am and couldn't do anything. Then 5 carpenters came at almost 1pm and 3 left and then 2 started to work after 40 mins later. I'm really concern that 2 days work may drag on over the weekend. Well, keeping my finger cross and hope they do a good job.

Today is day 2 and the WIP:-

1) Wardrobe 90% complete

2) TV cum dresser 25% - stop work due to error in construction.

3) Bookshelf - no work being done except the carcass

4) Bedside table - no installation due to error in construction.

I hope they will be able to rectify the error soon cause I really don't want to do cleaning up during Christmas eve and Christmas day. The tough part in this Reno is that I was told that both IDs in charge are having their reservist. Hope they can drop by when they have the time over this weekend.

Well, no cleaning up during eve and Christmas Day, alright. Sigh! And no wardrobe and cabinets for the Christmas either.

WIP: wardrobe: 90% completed

bookshelf: 95%

TV and dresser: 40% completed

Bedside table: 0%

3 workers came but the progress is quite slow. Partly due to the slanted wall of the building and partly due to some errors in constructing the cabinet. Also, the soft closing mentioned during the initial negotiation was not conveyed to the carpenters, so the soft closing was supplied later and it does not fit in the drawers and carcass dimension. So there are rectification needed.

And finally the IDs are out from their reservist and hope the progress will speed up and rectification are done properly soon.

Tomorrow will be the start of the work again.

The Carperters are not coming today!!! And my hubby is running out of patience. We have been sleeping in our living room in order for the work to be carry out faster. But it seems like its dragging on...

The wardrobe is almost finished but I'm having trouble opening the drawers due to the slope on the drawer is not slanted enough to allow my fingers to grip on it properly.

This is the pic of the drawer. Thickness measures 15mm and slope gradient is not good enough for the fingers to grip onto the drawers to pull open.

This is the picture of an existing storage TV cabinet in our living area. The thickness is 18mm thick and given good gradient of the slope. The fingers sit in the gap and pulling drawers with full load seems so much easier.
