It has a heat pump and water tubes are running inside the mattress. The heat pumps can supply hot and cold water depending on the setting. One could set temperature as low as 18C and as high as 40C. Good thing about it is that it can save more than 80% cooling bills (not electricity bills as there are many other appliances in a home). One guy showed his Singapore Power Bill that cut electricity bills by 50% in Sept 2012. I DIYed a similar system using aquarium chiller (no money to buy lah plus I wanted a quiet bed cooler). The measured electricity saving was about 90%. This blog has all the information.
