Prettibride 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2007 hai ya u all really very funny type lah.......wat modern mininalist design lor......tis type is for poor blokes like me whom all the money i hv is to paint the wall in light grey so no need to repaint for next 20 yrs......simple square or circle lightings cos they r brightness n cheapest, no wall ornament cos no more money.............use grandmother thousand cloths balnket as floor rug to add color to hse........buy planks from ikea to fabricate feature wall to hide behind palladine 42" plams n akira 2.1 system.....get sofa w/ designer chic look from RTL factory.............Is tis considered as modern minimalist or poor sgp man trying his best to hv a nice pent? I guess its not true that minimalism is for poor blokes. in fact renovating your house to cater to normal living but yet looks like it is empty can be even more expensive than normal renovation. cos u hv to conceal a lot of stuff etc. wires, cabinets. my ideal of modern minimalism is a white house with very little loose furnitures. Glossy white/black laminated tv console and cabinets, glass door, bright lightings. some greys on the walls if necessary. With some very modern/ abstract decoratives and paintings. End result is the house must look very empty with clean lines for furnishings but yet has all the things needed for humans to live in.

Prettibride 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 (edited) wow mist, those pictures are really nice. But personnally i find all white is kinda boring. So i like to have white with colorful decorations like green, orange or pink. There is this TV ad recently which shows a white house with a lot of green plants...really nice too..that is the kinda effect I wanna achieve for my house. Btw, I am looking for a full glass coffee table like this one here:I wonder if anyone here has it or has seen it somewhere before? Can let me know how much it cost? Cheapest I can find is $350 but not sure if they are still selling it. Edited March 22, 2007 by Prettibride

Bud 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2009 Hi, I am also trying to adopt the minimalist look but it seemed like a challenge for normal living. For instance, my microwave oven, rice cooker and electric kettle are daily necessity and high usage. When I placed them on the kitchen top, I can see the appliances' wires being plugged into the electricial point loacted below the top cabinet, spoiling the whole concept as the wires run across from top to the appliances. I have to keep them in the cabinets after use to maintain the minimalist look. Any other practical solutions to have these appliances placed on the kitchen top permanently? Ripples 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2009 (edited) I'm hiding all switches in the kitchen cabinets and aligning the power points along the side of the cabinet, just above the solid top. This way, I don't have to mess up my mosaic backsplash. Also, I'm hiding my toaster and coffee maker with a shutter. When I need to use them, I just pull the shelf out.
