PinkTissue 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2012 Decided to change the bathroom shower enclosure from gold to black. It would make the 24k gold shower set to stand out more with a black background. Don't you think it would look KTV-ish? IMG_1224 by PinkTissue, on Flickr
PinkTissue 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2012 My first 'quarrel' with my ID over my color scheme. Not sure whether it is because I did not state clearly what I like or dislike or there is a miscommunication. Right in the beginning, I had chosen my wall tiles. I left it up to my ID to choose the shower area wall tiles as long as they match the tiles I have chosen. He had gotten back to me about choosing black tiles mixed with gold. It is a striking design and i agreed to it. But what I didn't know is that he wanted to turn the entire bathroom black including the area outside the shower area. Even the floor tiles are black. He even returned the tiles I have chosen to the tile company with the thinking he has my blessing to change the whole room black. I admit that it would look fantastic but I really do not think that I could live with an entirely black bathroom. And i thought i made it clear in the beginning that I do not like a dark bathroom. Yes, it can be dark in the shower area but not the ENTIRE bathroom. Thr only 'blessing' I could think out of this mess is that the tiles are not tiled yet so there is time to work out a design. Charmainecc 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2012 Please ask him to check with you for every steps. This is what my ID does. He would discuss with us on everything he is going to do. Simply a lot of discussion. Certain things not needed now or can be waited, just check the price or have some ideas in my mind, decide or pay when u r certain after discussion with ID.I had argument with my ID too but generally his service is very good just that a little bit pricey. Untitled by PinkTissue, on FlickrI admit I am "off" in choosing the tiles. I came to a compromise with my ID. It would be something black, purple & gold. PinkTissue 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2012 (edited) My ID agreed to rush my sis's room and common bathroom so that we have a 'semi-clean' place when my sis is discharged from hospital. So it is a shock to see only a few tiles are laid (without the mosaic tiles) after 2 days of tiling. I know that the tilers are not skivving because they are in the whole of 2 days. The ID told me becos I am particular about the alignment and grout line, the master tiler and him think the first attempt is not good enough and decided to re-do again. It is a very, very slow progress and you need to be good in maths as the tiles involve cutting to fit the size. I must say the tile alignment is really, really good. I do find that the 2 tone odd but my sis wants to be so. The shower area beige color with flower tiles and the rest in white tiles. I guess once they put in the the mosaic tiles, the screen door and 'dresseing up' the wall with picture and other ornaments and , it would look pretty decent. I MMS the progress to my sis at the hospital and she is pretty happy with it Common bathroom by PinkTissue, on FlickrOn the down side, the reno budget is busted beyond repair I may have to postpone certain things until my wallet recover. But there are certain things that I cannot save - like polishing/repair of marble floor and parquet floor (1k) and I may have to overlay my sliding doors (already fabricated) to my walk in closet because of the change in design concept and change in bathroom tiles at master bedroom (ouch, expensive, new tiles are from Egypt. They are nice and both my ID has conveniently forget to check the price so we both got a shock at the final tile bill.) PinkTissue 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2012 Suddenly felt very sad as I came across a forumer's blog saying that her grandmother passed away and missed her very much. I lost my mum in July this year. After 100 days, decided to embark on a reno so both my sis and I would have a fresh start. I missed my mum very, very much and I think she would enjoy the reno progress although she may not like my taste. For some reason, I kept remembering that peach color bathroom set I hunted for in my last reno. My mum had decided on peach color tiles in the bathroom and she wanted a peach color bathroom set - mirror, basin, WC etc. I remembered that moment of triumph of getting the right shade bathroom set that I called my mum excitedly over the phone that I found 'it'. That feeling was so real that it felt that it only happened a few minutes ago that I called my mum and my mum asking for confirmation that I got the 'right shade'. Mum, I miss you

PinkTissue 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2012 We have several built in cabinets & cupboards still in very good condition so it would be a waste to tear them down. My sister wanted a French theme. So my ID overlay the existing cabinets & cupboard with laminate. I am not sure whether that would work but my ID said he could 'Frenchify' then. I must say I am pretty impressed by the work so far. It is not completed yet with trims and door knobs. You be the judge. Untitled by PinkTissue, on Flickr
PinkTissue 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2012 This is the LAST TIME I would stay in while my house is undergoing renovation. My sister was sick at the beginning of the reno and the schedule was thrown off as the workers concentrated on her room and common bathroom. Then, I for sick a few days back. The dust generated everyday is really horrible. Technically, my minor reno should be completed by next Saturday. Not sure whether this could be completed. Some updates. I am really worried whether my wall tiles would look horrible. And maybe I should have stuck to wallpaper even though maintenance may be a problem. Tiles turned out to be really nice. The moment you step into my house, you cannot but help to draw your eyes to the wall of tiles. The wall still needs a few touches and trimming but it is already giving a 'wow' effect. My sis thinks it is a bit 'too much'. But I like it. The tiles look beautiful in any lighting.
