PinkTissue 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2012 (edited) @Suyun on golden mosaic tilesI am afraid I cannot help you on the golden mosaic tiles. The pic I saw is a representation of the tiles my ID sourced for me - the actual color is slightly lighter and the 'size' of each tile is bigger. It is supposed to be a 'fake' mosaic tile - i.e. a big tile with 'several small mosaic'. As it is supposed to fill the entire shower area, I would die trying to clean the grout line if they are 'real' mosaic tiles. PinkTissue 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2012 (edited) OK. Now let's move on to the common toilet. The things are chosen by my dear sister since she would be the main user of the toilet. She has chosen a sea theme.Common ToiletDolphin tap - I love it!IMG_0941 by PinkTissue, on FlickrSeashell mosaicIMG_0913 by PinkTissue, on FlickrFlower tiles for the shower area - personally I think it may be a mismatch but since it is only at the shower area which is distinct from the rest of the bathroom, should be ok. And these tiles are really, really expensive. 20120902_150846 by PinkTissue, on FlickrAnd my sis's favorite - the seashell toilet. Personally I think it is tacky but my sis insisted on it. Since she is paying for the common toilet, I better keep my mouth shut.b_5fex1g950269_0 by PinkTissue, on Flickr Edited October 15, 2012 by PinkTissue
PinkTissue 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2012 This 'small' upgrading is turning into a monster project. I am so busy and tried with work that I am too lazy to pack my stuff away for the renovation which is going to start in less than 2 weeks.Soft FurnishingsMy late mum love the sofa set I bought when she got ill so that she could comfortably lie/sleep in the living room without being stuck at the bedroom all the time. As it has a lot of sentimental value, I am keeping the sofa set and gives it a new 'facelift' with a change of upholstery. The problem is that the upholstery cost more than a new sofa set. Sigh...IMG_1030 by PinkTissue, on FlickrSome new curtains which is pure indulgence. There is nothing wrong with my old curtains and curtains is like bedsheets - wash and wash and still survive.IMG_1001 by PinkTissue, on FlickrIMG_0965 by PinkTissue, on FlickrIMG_0957 by PinkTissue, on Flickr
PinkTissue 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2012 I would not be using the gold mosaic tiles as my ID sourced something I liked better. Unfortunately, he took the tile home before I remembered to take a photo. Just decided to get more tiles for the reno. More tiles picsilver tiles by PinkTissue, on FlickrAndtiles rust by PinkTissue, on FlickrMy ID would be sending applying the permit to apply for renovation plus give me paper boxes for packing on Tuesday. He said that if there are any last minute changes, they would need to be done by Tuesday as he would make the full payment for the reno items on Tuesday. Hoped I don't go to bed and wake up and decided to do the Zen theme instead.

PinkTissue 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2012 Time flies. The upgrading is going to start next Thursday! I am really excited but at the same time apprehensive of the 1001 things that can go wrong. Oh let's not mention the cost overrun. And many items I ordered from China has not arrived yet so I am crossing my fingers that everything would worked out well. Can you believe that I still have yet to decided on the color of my floor tiles? I would be packing, packing and packing over the next few days. As I am going to stay at the house while it is undergoing renovation, it is going to be dusty and dirty.
PinkTissue 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2012 More stuff which create a deeper and bigger hole to my pocket.I hate ceiling fans - they are difficult to clean and they gets dirty easily. I am sticking to conventional fans with an antique vibe.White by PinkTissue, on FlickrBrown by PinkTissue, on FlickrA display cabinet cum shoe box which would be placed at the entrance and acts as a natural 'barrier' to the rest of the living room. I hate it when you open the door and everyone can see through the house all the way to the window. The color is not what I really want so may get it re-painted?Display Conter by PinkTissue, on FlickrA new bed frame and side table for the master bedroom.bed and side table by PinkTissue, on Flickr

So I ended up with the current ID recommended by my colleague.
PinkTissue 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2012 Grrr......I have been informed that the display counter I wanted for is out out of stock. I tried a few stores - same story. I finally approached my ID to do a custom made one.
PinkTissue 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2012 Grrrrr..........today is really a lousy day. ID told me that I need to pay close to $500 extra because the wall tiles I have chosen are very complicated & labour intensive. Not happy. This should be communicated earlier and not 4 days before the start of renovation. I already ordered the wall tiles & cannot cancel the order. So I am held hostage to this? I hoped I can work out something with the ID tomorrow.

PinkTissue 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2012 (edited) Well, i don't think i will be happy about it too! And yes, i think he should have known when he chose the tiles for you. But do not let this affect your reno, talk it out nicely with him I customized the tiles and imported them to Singapore. The problem is that nobody in Singapore actually have sight of them until the first batch arrived at Singapore earlier. And the ID has severely under quoted the price. He quoted me the labour cost a few days ago. But when the master tiler came down to look at the tiles, he spent a long time looking and matching the tiles and pronounced that it would be slow and that he needed 14 working days just to lay these tiles on 3 walls. I think the ID was caught by surprise of the quotation by the master tiler as the master tiler insisted on using some special chemical as the tile is so heavy and that the master tiler needed more time. From the picture, the tiles looked like wall paper but they are actually three dimensional and some even have real crystals on them. Each tile is specially made so unlike homogenous tiles, they are not quite evenly cut and the tiler actually have to lay out the tiles and find the best angle. There is also no room for error because as each batch is only produced upon request, the coloring would be different from each batch. So if the tiler breaks the tile, there is no replacement. The tile is really heavy and I do worry that if it falls off, it can kill a person (not joking....). But I think it may be well worth the effort. When I saw the first batch of tiles, I am speechless. It is different from printed tile (which can also cost a lot if they are from Spain or Italy) and wallpaper. I grudgingly agreed to pay the additional labour cost. But the ID has agreed to waive off the gold framing which would be made around the tiles and one extra lighting point free.
