lawry 3 Report post Posted November 9, 2012 Time to grill and question your hubby's friend. Why did he make that "strong referral", was his house renovated by him hence personally endorsed or does he get a middleman commission for sealing the deal without knowing his standards and workmanship? rain 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2012 The friend said the contractor did a good job for his house. My husband didn't want me to interfere with the reno then and being young and foolish, he chose to trust his friend ('I know him for a long time. He won't do me in blah blah blah ...') and contractor wholeheartedly. Anyway they might have some verbal agreement among them which fell out later on. It was a mess and it changed our relationship quite drastically from then on. 7 years on and we are still living with his mistakes. So HDB license is at least an assurance of some sort. Tiler Seng 57 Report post Posted February 17, 2013 haha don't be so serious about renting or borrowing, utimately it ends up the same..it is always good to have Housing Board get interfere when your reno turned out bad with your licensed or non-licensed contractor, atlease the licensed holder wouldn't run away easily but the other hand the non-licensed can say bye bye and leave you alone and you will be sure to responsive to any fine amount for taking non-licensed contractor, but ofcause you can push the buck to the licensed contractor that rent or borrowed by your non-licensed contractor so you will be safe from fine- don't under estimate the time spending for getting yourself free.
