The Experience: Our First Home

Recommended Posts

Yesterday was a day of cleaning and tidying up in the new place, before the move-in this coming weekend :sport-smiley-004:

image-28.jpg Still can't quite decide if I like the combination of chairs at the dining table/island. Hmm... (we're still missing one chair! Delivery expected only at the end of April :()

image-25.jpg Our collection of crockery!

image-26.jpg My chair for the study/lounge in our room. Loving the socks :D

image-24.jpg The study/lounge area is slowly taking shape!

What a cute idea...love the socks!

Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request

Dropped by Blum's showroom today to get accessories for our kitchen drawers. Tried getting the dividers from IKEA, but the measurements didn't fit.

A list of what's possible for Blum drawers (Tandem box).

The Orga line is now on sale for the month of March.

The starter kit is good for those who would have use for everything that comes in the box. We didn't like the plate holder and spice rack, so we did it a la carte instead.

You also get a 10% discount off regular-priced Orga line products if you like Blum on Facebook.

If i wanted to save money, and buy these BLUM sets first...do you think it is a problem? We are still in the design phase..and the contractor has not come in to do proper measurements etc...so they can work around it?

If you're installing Blum drawers, it shouldn't be a problem at all! If you're getting the starter kit, it shouldn't be a problem because everything in the set comes up to be around 600mm (not counting the plate holders and spice racks because those are supposed to go into the deeper drawers). But I guess yeah, if you buy them now, you need to remember to make your drawers long enough to fit it all in one drawer! Unless you don't mind having some spill over to the next drawer (we bought the sets a la carte so that it would all fit into one drawer).

i was at Hafele over the weekend. the prices were shocking. 2 times the prices of Excel. and we're talking abt the baskets for kitchen cabinets.

But i'm thinking of buying my drawer runners ($28) from Hafele. The salesman wasn't of much help. so got to check with my contractor of 550mm fits.

Is blum better?

Hmm Hafele $28 is how long? I thinking of getting hettich, saw someone here mentioned it's cheaper than blum but quality is on par.

I can't say if Blum's better since that's the only system I know! :D But I guess Blum is the well-known brand out of the bunch? It's been the system that I've seen everywhere.

Wow! Can move-in this weekend le. Very nice house.. :yamseng:

Yes finally! Can't wait to arrange the furniture and style the place :sport-smiley-004: When is yours ready?

Mid Apr is coming soon! Hope everything goes smoothly for you :D you take more pictures of the finished outcome too!

Lovely bike! :good:

:D

Am going slightly berserk thinking about what to put where and how to arrange everything. Can't wait to move in, Saturday feels so far away!

But the packing is driving us mad :bangwall: so much to pack, but so lazy. I feel like leaving everything in the old place and just moving myself over

Meanwhile, the bicycle is keeping me happy :)

Yes Hettich is from Germany. I haven't try it out to comment though. I read somewhere here that Hettich costs "only $28-30 per set of tracks vs Blum $45-50". I think don't have to worry too much about the length, after you decide what brand you wanna use, tell your carpenter and he can custom build according to the hardware dimensions?
