Ks Toh 74 Report post Posted September 10, 2012 How do you guys install ceiling fans onto a ceiling with existing false ceiling? My ID / Contractor wants to install onto the false ceiling. He says he will erect timber support to hold it. But two fan shops I went to say the fan should be intalled directly onto the concrete ceiling, with the rod protruding through the false ceiling. This means I have to purchase those fans with a longer rod.But my friend says should construct a metal support from concrete ceiling to the false ceiling, like those used to hang a projector. The fan is then installed onto this support. This is what his contractor apparently did, although we cannot verify this since the false ceiling is now covered up. Direct mount to false ceiling is fine if some wood is used to reinforce from inside the false ceiling. That is assuming your false ceiling was properly mounted to the reinforcing metal strips that were spaced according to specs.

Might as well mount to concrete directly. Direct mount to false ceiling is fine if some wood is used to reinforce from inside the false ceiling.
