Can Negotiate Price With Contractor/id?

Recommended Posts

Of course can negotiate and most of the time they will give discounts. But don't ask for too much or else they will not be happy when reno your place. So negotiate and ask them to revise down a bit.... Maybe 1-2 times depending on how sincere you want them to do. If negotiate and in the don't use then waste ppl time lah.

I think you got to do your homework and compare the prices of your selected contractors/ID.

You can't use contractor price to negotiate with your ID. Focus on the overall price and not on each individual item to negotiate. Initial quote is a good indicator of the margin they want for the service level.

Select the contractor/ID whom you want to do the reno and negotiate. Don't expect drastic discount like 20% discount on overall price except for a few items might be possible. Don't waste their time by bargaining which is different from negotiation. They may seem to give in to your price demand but you may not know where they might recover from other material costs. A good contractor/ID would not sacrifice quality if their margin is compromised too much.

You may need to negotiate on the progressive payment term. I didn't have issue with paying them after they have delivered materials and services. My 2 different contractors were fine with 10% on job confirmation and 40% after the raw materials were delivered. After the reno works were completed and collected the balance 60%. If the contractor/ID insists you must pay upfront 50% (10% + 40%) before the start of reno works, you may want to assess the risks of advance payment.

Conclusion is nego for the best price and better progressive payment term. :yamseng:

Please only nego with one ID/Contractor that u like/picked them.

Please do not so KIA SU.

Nego A - A give discount $ 1000

Nego B - B only discount $ 500.

Nego C- Bla bla

Then go back to see A again for the nego-ed price. Definitely. A company will not happy to do for u.

Service after sale will be terrible for you. I've seen many cases.

I managed to negotiate down $1000 down from $11500. Got a few other quotes from contractors and IDs so I know the price is about there. In the end, it's all about who you think is reliable and has more experience than the rest.

dun try too hard.. it's natural when u want more discount, the only way the id/contractor think of is how to cut his cost

and not affecting his profit.

mine discount near to 5%......all happy then start reno
