singingbird 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2012 BEfore the start of my reno, I have been wanting to install square downlight...i have to decided to use LED... after much research realised, For LED, the intial startup cost for is kind of expensive as compare to PLC....or even energy savinghowever it will save the power consumption in the long run. I am keen on Philips 10w LED downlight.... it costs is comparable to non branded LED... ( manufactured in China) however the only issue, it is only available in round and not square....Anyone used the Phillips LED downlight beofre ? ANy feedback ? THanks ! yoongf 11 Report post Posted August 28, 2012 ...... however it will save the power consumption in the long run. Think need to clear the misconception that LED is more energy saving that flourescent. To measure efficiency, there is a term called "lumens per watt", which is basically how much light is produced vs power consumed.LED is ard 63 lm/w. T5 tubes are well above 70. Philips tornado is also ard 70.LED is ideal replacement for halogen spot lights. But LED vs flourescent is just comparable only.LED appears brighter becuase they use a reflector, like halogen bulbs, while PLC/E27 does not have reflectors built in.LED is very useful when u have high ceilings where replacement is very troublesome, and long life is preferred.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luminous_efficacy
mikecjw 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2012 For what I know, you can use Philips FBG 302 round at $28 and purchase Philips myVision LED bulb at $15 @ lightings.com.sgFBG 304 square cannot fix Philips myVision LED bulb. Is this true?I still prefer the square one for downlight but if no choice may get the round one.For long term maintenance changing bulb at $15 is reasonable, changing the whole LED downlight Phiilps 45018 if spoil at $58 (quite ex).Any thoughts? Batman 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2012 Bro singing,Dont mind me saying. But if u r going for the same wattage as a "normal or usual" downlight, then there is no ROI liao leh

But if u r going for the same wattage as a "normal or usual" downlight, then there is no ROI liao leh Batman, btw i am sis singing ...mmmm, i am replacing each brightness of 28watt ( PLC with two 14 w tube ) with a 9 watt LED , so the energy saving is double right ? There should be ROI in the long term right ? However we are not sure if the brightness is really eqiivalent... we should know by next week when the lights are up

However we are not sure if the brightness is really eqiivalent... we should know by next week when the lights are up Don just look at wattage for brightness. Look at Lumens. If price is abt the same, go for LED because of lower wattage and lesser the need to change light bulb.
SKYJUICE123 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2012 LED lamps are not necesssary energy efficient. they must work together with reflectors and lens. Good for task and not for general lighting. suitable for downlightshttp://skyjuiceiswater.blogspot.sg/2012/11/led-lights-saves-energy.html
