Join 46,923 satisfied homeowners who used renotalk quotation service to find interior designers. Get an estimated quotation

expected they need to quote higher to cover back but still must be reasonable rates. The prices u mentioned are really sky high...

Regarding id sounds like contractor, alot of them have experience as a contractor before and thus very easy to turn into id ... These kind of contractor turned ids are actually better because they should be more experienced plus they can have alot of ideas n recommendations.

If u are not very particular on copying designs, by going through a few design books from bookstore or internet , u can get a few ideas that u like n get a contractor to do it at a fraction of a price from id firms... U can save alot n spend it on furnishings...

For tiling, need to find out the price of tiles they allow you to choose.

Noted, both quotation are the same allowed up till $3 for tiles.

I'm thinking to place the shoes cabinet facing the main door, at the kitchen entrance, cabinet depth 35cm; Current kitchen entrance is 105cm meaning will change to 70cm if place the shoes cabinet there. Is 70cm too narrow for kitchen entrance?

We decided to do laminate flooring for the bedrooms. Talked to a few ID some say just overlay it on the current tiles, some say need to hack & cement screed before lay laminate cos if just overlay will have problem in leveling. If just overlay probably can save $1k no concern of the bedroom door cos going to change it. But meaning the living room floor need to build 5-10mm higher in order to have same level with the rooms right? Won't it affect the main door & gate? Currently I see no gaps in between the doors & floor. Any advice anyone?

It has been a while since my last post. Reno already started, to date is the 5th week. Few hiccups, currently doing carpentry.

Just want to share some learning about the Blum System.

For start I know nothing about Blum. I started with reading their catalogue, went to their showrooms etc. to understand what are my options. I went there without my ID, I asked the staff there how should I plan my kitchen layout? The staff ask me to engage one of their certified carpenter to do the planning... I went to my ID, my ID ask me to plan myself. To cut the story short, I started to plan the zoning (e.g. cleaning zone, cooking zone, preparation zone etc.) & decide what are the width of drawer to use. There’s some box up in my current kitchen so I’m not able to take the actual dimension before hacking. So I just take the dimension from the floor plan & happily went shopping with my ID & bought nearly half of the system.

After the tiling is done, to my surprise the actual dimension available for my cabinet is 30-40cm lesser than the floor plan. I guess these 30-40cm is the cement, tiling, walls etc. Need to re-locate some of the purchased Blum system… So lesson No.1: take the actual measurement on site AFTER tiling completed. So the final draft looks like this: The lines are the kitchen doors, the S1, S4 etc are the Blum system item code.

After a few days, ID called & say carpenter say cannot put 3 S4 together in the same cabinet, too high. So swap the S4 to the oven there and replace with S1.

Today when I go & see it, it's like this:

I expect the 3 drawers (s1, s4, s4) are equally divided but in actual case it's not... it become 1 small 2 big & the small one will not align with the first drawer at the other side...

The bottom most pull out of the larder unit I requested to be 38cm, but carpenter made 33cm. It is just nice to put in a beverage bottle like this. So far in my house I couldn't find anything taller than this yet. Do you think there's anything taller than this?
