Digital Lock

Recommended Posts

Jut wanted to share with you all about my unhappy experience with installation of digital lock.

I recently moved house from a private to a HDB.

Back in my old place we had digital locks (finger print) and thus we wanted sometime similar at our HDB.

Digital locks are a good thing as I don't have to carry a bunch of keys.

So while renovaton works were going on in my HDB, my wife and I went lock hunting.

I favored the korean brand but wife say it was too expensive.

She found a local brand (made in china) from a shop in Bukit Batok East ave 5.

They sell the finger print lock for around the same price as the korean brand but they provide two locks.

One for main door and another for the main gate.

Quite a good deal right...somemore got shop so got after sales service.

Wife of course was impress, pay same price get two locks.

Open the main gate lock and the main door lock automatically opens.

But the lock design was rather thick so we were worried if it can fit our current door and gate.

We asked the boss and his installer to drop by our place to evaluate.

They were kind enough to visit us the following weekend and after assessing, he assured us it can be done but need to re-weld the hinges so that gate open the other direction (this is to prevent the gate lock and door lock from hitting one another if they are on the same side).

So there came and install the lock on my main door and took away the metal gate.

They return on weekend and try to fix the gate.

After almost half a day the gate was still not fixed.

The workers tried to drind and cut and hammered.

My poor gate looked distorted.

I called the boss and he came down and agree with me that the gate was not porportional anymore.

He told me he will need to take back to workshop to fix and will take 4 days.

But the workers surprised me on Sunday and appeared infront of my house while I was celebrating my fathers birthday outside (my domestic helper called me).

I called the boss and asked how come he didnt keep to the schedule.

He replied that he asked his worker to paint the metal frame only.

When I got home the metal frame was not painted. The worker and the boss was grinding away.

I asked how come the metal frame not painted..boss say worker forget to bring paint.

After another 4 hours the worker finally managed to install the gate.

But the gate has to be slammed shut (use force) cause the lock latch were too thick.

While inspecting, I notice that the latch has broke.

I asked the worker to replace or I will call his boss (boss left after buying paint).

The worker came back an hour later with the new latch but somehow the latch cannot fit.

The worker uses brute force and hammered away.

I told him to use his brains and end up helping him.

We managed to install the latch but the latch cannot flsuh.

He told me he will saw away the protruding end.

I cannot believed my ears I was already tired and fustrated.

After sawing, he managed to install but need a lot of strength to pull the gate inorder to lock.

My gate is now in a sorry state, the worker damaged my wall (chip off) and I have to provide cement (Left over from renovation) for him to patch.

He helped paint the wall but did a sloppy job and I ended up painting myself.

Unfortunately he painted the gate before latch installation and the paint has not dried.

So there were finger print all over my gate and the paint job looked terrible (thick paint).

I really gave up and my wife spoke to the boss. In the end we have to buy a new gate.

The boss was kind enough to reduce the price of the gate by $50.

Last Monday, they were suppose to install the gate.

I came home and the gate was not install.

However the workers did paint the metal frame (including the walls on the frame).

My wife told me that they forgot to measure and the new gate cannot lock.

I was fine with that until at the common garbage area (shared by my neoghbours and I), there was a big paint stain on the floor.

Apparently the worker has washed his paint there and didnt clean up.

Luckily I discovered it before my neoghbour else I am sure I will get a complain.

I lost my cool and call the boss, he threaten me to go and complain his company.

My wife intervene and took over the phone and spoke to the boss.

Guess she playing the peace maker.

She has to asked my domestic helper to go and scrub the floor.

So currently my gate still not install.

Everytime I go hope and see it, my anger will flare up.

<to be continued>

Sorry to hear that. I will be equally pissed when things like that happened.

Thanks AxelC. Good news they finally installed the gate.

They worked till 8 pm and got it installed.

But job not well done. the distant between the side panel and the gate are too wide.

Thus the latch on the digital lock can barely lock.

Also the hole alightment and the lock height is out.

The hole is lower than the lock.

Sigh...

More headache.

My wife handled the whole matter...think she know I will blow my top again.

But I heard her scolding the worker.

Apparently she asked the worker to do some touch up but got an answer from him that "his friends are waiting for him...".

That cause my wife to lose her cool...she has been helping him touch up and doing most of the cleaning up herself...

Yet this guy is only anxious that his friends are waiting for him...

What rotten luck....I still believe I should have stick to the korean brand...

At least we have used it before....

Always trust the trusted brand and rely on the shop/installer(s) that gave you good experience in the past.

Totally agree with taichipanda.

Anyway cannot undo our decision so only need to seek a workable solution lor.

Even if end up I have to fork out more.

Sigh

Hi angry papa,

Is the shop selling biolock? I am thinking of installing it for my house. Is it working fine? Is the metal gate locked when the wooden door is open?

Thanks in advance.

Seriously, 'She' was not reading the thread properly. Sorry, no offenses. But just curious that 'She' would still want to buy from the shop with such an incident happened to angry papa.

Hi All,

Yes the korean brand is Samsung.

My nightmare brand is biol**K.

Today, my maid got lock out!

She couldn't get in cause her finger print was programme sometime back but dunno what's wrong cannot read anymore.

She actually walked all the way to my daughter's infant center to call me (a mrt station away).

I sneaked out of office to pick her up but she has left.

I rushed back but she isn't even home.

This biol**K is naking a mess of my life.

I really really really regret installing it.

Did you know the gate contractor they got me claim that they have no experience with biol**k.

Yet biol**k told me they have worked with this contractor for many years.

Biol**k also never send anyone down during the installation to advice the gate contractor.

No measurement was given and gate contractor don't even know how to cut the hole.

Please save yourself the trouble don't go for biol**k.

I think the lock and keys still the best.

Oh just to add....its not working fine all the time.

I need to scan my finger print a few times sometimes.

I was also locked out once.

The battery inside the lock fell out.

Luckily I have the key with me now after the previous incident.

So u see my objective of bringing no keys has not been resolved.

I still need to carry emergency keys.

Despite their claim that battery lasts a year, I have already changed the batteries within a month.

She can open the gate lock which is suppose to open the main door lock.

Is it user problem or lock problem?

seems like no end to my woes.

Last weekend, the gate couldn't work again.

It can be opened from inside but if you are outside the finger print scanner cannot work.

My wife did a battery change thinking it is that the battery is weak (only last 2 months).

But still couldn't work.

Call the installer, who asked us to use alkaline batteries only.

Yes, we did but still couldn;t work.

So we asked him to come down.

But just before he come down the fr**king thing work again.

So my wife asked him tho fixed the battery falling off problem.

Somehow the batteries has a tendancy to fall off and become loose.

Don;t know what he did I was with my daughter and heard grinding.

I went out to check and saw him talking to my wife about paint.

The grinding has taken away the paint on my gate and he is asking what color.

My wife has no idea since it was chosen from the shop catalogue.

So i confronted him and asked him to call his office to ask.

How would we know?

Kanna shoo away by my wife.

The shop also complain we didnt pay up.

But my wife asked the lady at the shop to check and call us back if they are willing to extend the 2 years warrantee on the troublesome lock.

She didnt call back, so we didnt issue check.

The boss thought we dont want to pay.

Well if its not fixed we shouldnt pay right?

My colleaguess all asked me not to pay. Anyway wife did pay without the extended warrantee.

The boss say no special treatment all customers get one year warantee.

The cost of repair at most is $160.

Wow...so expensive and unreliable.

This lock is a sore to my eye and a pain in my ar*e.

After all i gone through I hope all you people will be wiser.
