thedottyness 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2012 Potatoes,Yes, you are right. It's really a major ovrhaul. Everything will go except parquet flooring on the second floor. Decided to hack the marble flooring on first level, which initially I intended to salvage.we are doing the same.. except we didn't have the marble option for 1st lvl.just curious, u don't like the look of the marble or what? is that why u don't wanna keep it? AxelC 3 Report post Posted July 11, 2012 I want my place to be bright cool and spacious... Colour scheme - natural, pastel (beige, brown). The marble at the existing place is greyish white (as seen in the pic). Doesn't seem to blend in with the theme. So decided to let it go. we are doing the same.. except we didn't have the marble option for 1st lvl.just curious, u don't like the look of the marble or what? is that why u don't wanna keep it? So decided to let it go.Hi AxcelCMaybe the flooring has been some time left unattended. Can consider to give this marble a polish shine which you might accepted. As you have mentioned the brown theme which you can picture as just like the kopithiam table. The table top is marble is also greyish white with the brown wooden trim and leg base. Like wise the decor can work from this angle as to compliment with add on of brown or wood trimmings.Ps marble material for flooring is a big ticket item which is quite a waste to change unless the marble has major cracks and cannot be remedy by grinding to polish.Depending on marble quality which can be 10k to 20k for doing up a EM flooring. No disrespect to your decor ideals but just my a little thoughts contribution........ adidaem 6 Report post Posted July 12, 2012 Do rethink the marble. Newly polished marble looks and feels amazing. I've seen horrid looking ones that looked pretty nice after polishing. Such a waste to hack away!
AxelC 3 Report post Posted July 12, 2012 Exman and Adideam, I will make the decision after inspecting the flooring. That will be after I get my keys next week.

cleong 1 Report post Posted July 13, 2012 I'm one of the owners that refurbished instead of replaced the original marble floor, you can check out the before and after photos in my thread. Link is in my sig. Anyway a lot of it has got to do with the stuff that's been accumulated by the original owner of the unit, once you brighten up your walls and de-clutter, the floor will be fine. As someone seems to have quoted, a new marble floor for the lower level is 20k. Polishing is 10% or less of that.
AxelC 3 Report post Posted July 13, 2012 Met up with an id for the second time, spent 2 hrs. Relooked and compared the quotations at home.Took another 1 hr. Seems like a full overhaul is about 70k. For those who just started sourcing for reno, really must look into the details. Then negotiate those 'high' items with your preferred reno company.
Exman 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2012 Hi AxcelCBetter to have break down to details that rather lump sum.Tried to get them to quote the charges for a full renovation. Also get them to quote the various options which you are uncertain to stay on 1 type.....Should in any event that there is a change of mind during the renovation progress.....That you would know how much is the deduction.... Should you not to process certain items and change in you option is also good to know how much more you shall be charge.....
AxelC 3 Report post Posted July 14, 2012 Went to inspect the unit today. More pre-reno pics. Living, balcony, dining/study, master bedroom and common room. Hmm, the whole house is quite dark... must change! Looking forward to the transformation.
