gcheese 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2012 hello, a while ago we got some built-in wardrobes installed. they give off a very strong chemical smell that irritates the eyes (i gather it is formaldehyde).i opened the wardrobes and blasted the fan at it for a while and thought the smell went away... but after closing it for a few days, the smell is back :( my first question, is there a good way to get rid of this 'plastic' smell? since it's built in, i can't really take it outside to air it. and opening it all the time stinks up the room because it's quite a big wardrobe.... next, the smell is honestly pretty bad and i'm not sure how safe it is. anyone had experience on testing for formaldehyde in the air? ty in advance
yoongf 11 Report post Posted July 1, 2012 It's the glue to stick the polykem/PVC/laminate to the wood.Put those charcoal air freshener, and it will go away soon. These type of glue dries by slowly evaporating the solvent away.

gcheese 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2012 update: almost three weeks later of cleaning and opening wardrobe doors to ventilate, there is still a smell, although it doesn't hurt my eyes anymore. :curse:
taichipanda 3 Report post Posted July 23, 2012 update: almost three weeks later of cleaning and opening wardrobe doors to ventilate, there is still a smell, although it doesn't hurt my eyes anymore. :curse:Dont be angry, it is standard for all custom made furniture. To get rid of the smell fast, first wipe with semi moist towel with mild detergent at all internal areas then wipe another time with dry towel, next leave all the doors and drawers open and use air cleaner in each room with them. You can get rid of the smell in a few days.
