The plumber has also shifted the inlet water pipe close to the wall (the short pipe). Previously the pipe is where the tap is situated, resulting in a huge box-up. The difference in distance is approximately 30 cm. Thanks to the plumber we can have more storage in our kichen cabinet.

Also managed to lower the vent pipe to minimise obstruction.

If you remember, it previously looked like this and was slightly below knee height but now it's slightly less than 10 cm:

As a result the vent pipe in the toilet looks less obtrusive as well.

Day 12

Kitchen tiling is comnpleted. This includes the little strip near my full-height cabinet.

As you can see, the hole for the refuse chute has been replaced by a flat steel chute cover. Compared to the bulky version that was there before renovation, this is more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

2 sides of the bathroom tiles are up. Somehow, all the tiles look the same but then not quite the same . This tile has slight silvery lines running horizontally across the tiles.

Tiler also drilled holes for the electrical cables and water pipes to pass through.

For the electrical cables (Not sure if this is too small)???

Notice that there are some imperfections for the tile joined at the corner of the door due to the tiler's miscalculations. Hb was not too satisfied with that area but we decided this is something we can live with (hopefully). This is because the other alternative is for the tiler to remove the earlier tiles he has laid and to retile them again!! Hopefully when the white grout is pasted over it, the line would be less obvious.

Day 13

Kitchen Flooring done though not much can be seen as the workers had placed huge pieces of cardboard to protect the tiles. Glad we chose the lighter shade of grey for the floor tiles as it seems to brighten up the kitchen. If we had stuck with the darker shade of grey, I believe the kitchen may look dark.

Kerb for Kitchen cabinets are also completed.

Toilet more or less finished (only left with the door kerb).

I was told those areas once filled with grouting will be ok. Its more bcoz Hdb walls is not 100% aligned.

Turquoise is a nice colour! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your furniture choice! Hehe you are right about the light grey tiles in the kitchen. My kitchen has dark grey tiles and they actually make the kitchen dark, but luckily I have white cabinet, otherwise my kitchen would be even darker.

Day 14

Tillers managed to finish laying the living room floor tiles in one day. When we reached, they were busy working on the area that's connects the parquet and tiles.

We love the clean look this tile gives.

i totally agree that seeing the progress day by day is really gratifying and exciting..even seeing others' progress is exciting..

Day 15

Update: The kitchen, bathroom and toilet are completed. Living room floor tiles are also done up.

However, we realised that the bathroom walls are not perpendicular to each other. Though this is not clearly visible, the mounting of the sink would certainly exemplify the flaw. We spoke to id, highlighting that the ‘new wall’ was installed by her workers, hence she would need to rectify this. Hb, id and tiler are going to discuss this today afternoon.

Day 16 - 18

Currently, plastering is ongoing. Remember I had highlighted that the walls of the flat was covered with poor and uneven plastering work, had many pits and bumps. Well, it’s amazing how much plastering can do to the overall look of the house. The add-on costs to get workers to plaster the walls are definitely worth it. Hb commented that plastering is as important as having a good make-up base/ foundation for a girl.

After the discussion with hubby, Id and boss of tiling company, the boss of the tiling co has agreed to redo the walls. No choice as my hb is pretty OCD about workmanship as he is an ex-HDB contractor and knows the tricks of the trade.
