Kim76 got a few crazy big purchases :jawdrop: :jawdrop:

Do you plan to run your empty conduit under your flooring or via false ceiling? My contact is from my ID, just that I provided the materials becasuse I'm picky on the branding :bleah: :bleah: pretty impressed with their finishing, as they does not use screwdriver but punch-down to crimp the points. It is recommended & secured! :thumbs up:

I'm having a great balance on AMP cat6, i can sell your intended length at cost if you are interested? :good: :good:

Hi ongcs, i got linked here from kim76's blog.

Nice purchases u have!

Do you still have cat6 cable left? I can buy from you if you want to offload them. I'm looking how to lay networking cables for my home too.. but mine is just a small one bedroom apt. I need to cater for a PC which will be in the living room, but on the opposite side of the living room where the modem will be. and also the bedroom to hook up my media player which is connected to my tv to stream movies or dramas directly.. and I like your idea of having spare points. :good:

Any suggestions how I can achieve that? I am getting my keys in April so I'm doing my homework early in case I need my ID to lay them for me :)

Yes, I do have a great balance of AMP Cat6 with me, let me know your length :sport-smiley-004:

Do you have a floor plan? I can advise from there easier. You mentioned streaming movies & dramas, direct stream from online or from NAS? Your Tv will be in your bedroom or Living room?

that is patch panel for link up between my various rooms' network ports so that I can centralized at 1 location. I will point them to my gigabit switch so that my switch can manage the bandwidth instead of stressing my router further. Moreover, my router does not have more than 4 ports. Edited by ongcs

This is my draft floor plan.

I will have false ceiling in both living room and bedroom.

The "partition" you see beside the study table is actually a full height shelf/divider. So for the PC, I was thinking I can run the cable from the cable point up to the false ceiling, pull it across the living room, and then let it come down from the inside the shelf/divider.

As for the media player, I will have it both in living room and bedroom. The media players are streaming directly from online.

I'm not so worried about the one in the living room as it will be house in the same cabinet as the cable point.

It's the one in the bedroom that I'm concerned about. :dunno:

On a side note, I'm looking to buy a 5.1 audio system and an amp for my living room set up. Any recommendation?

Your setup looks beauuuuuutiful :dribble: :dribble: :dribble:

But it's way over my budget. :P

My friend is using Jamo speakers and Onkyo amp and I find that acceptable and within my budget. He got it for 1.8k from Harvey Norman so I was thinking I can probably get something similar and cheaper from online/Amazon.

This should be below your league but maybe you have come across some nice systems during your hunt? :D

Thanks ongcs! :drunk:

Ans: Are you hacking your flooring? If yes, run your cable below your new flooring. If no, make sure there is trunking shefl for your cable run. You mentioned cable point? refers to your location where you house your modem and router? For both your cable point & study table point, it will be good if you can fix a network pot there instead of running the cable and let it linger there. Also, for your cable point, try not to conceal it as in closed cabinet, requires ventilation so you need to brainstorm on that.

As for the media player, I will have it both in living room and bedroom. The media players are streaming directly from online.

Ans: Run similar cable run from your cable point to your bedroom.

On a side note, I'm looking to buy a 5.1 audio system and an amp for my living room set up. Any recommendation?

Ans: From my view, your living room seems congested, so you can consider small form speaker system like Mirage. You can try out KEC in Adelphi if you want to custom it. If you dont mind 2nd hand, can try out Xtremeplace for 2nd hand speakers. The issues with getting such stuffs from Amazon/online are due to power voltage. Unless the equipments support dual voltage, you are better off locally or try Hong Kong if you are heading there soon or any friends based there at the moment.

Thanks ongcs! :drunk:

Also, I will be hosting a mini gathering for some friends in Renotalk, you can pop-by if you are interested for further discussion on your reno. You can take a view on my house networking and speaker system before you decide further on your budget allocation. :sport-smiley-004:

Many thanks for your thorough explanation ongcs! :)

I won't been hacking the floor that's why I am looking at the false ceiling as an alternative.

You mentioned it will be good to fix a network port instead of running the cable and let it linger there..

Do you mean fixing something like to my partition/divider after running the cable across the false ceiling?

This is a picture of something similar to study table for better illustration.

I intend to run the cable as illustrated by the red arrows. So do you mean fixing a network port like the image above at where arrow 2 ends?

Yup, I understand the differences of power voltage between Singapore and USA, but I thought all we need is a transformer?

Are sound systems in Hongkong cheaper than online? I will be going there in April! :dancingqueen:

Wow, how nice of you! When is the mini gathering? I will try to pop by if I can make it! :)

Or maybe not, since I can feel poison coming.... :P
