Recommended Posts

 Hi People,

My potential id proposed to do up kitchen cabinets with spray painted high gloss finish, was told that it would somewhat be alike to the painting coated on cars. Anyone heard of such methods ? Kindly enlighten me..

Spray paint is ok for dry kitchen. If you do heavy cooking, heavy usage, then not so suitable as the coating will wear off and turn ugly soon. I doubt paint can withstand the heat near the oven or hob. Alternative...you can go for laminate high gloss, even thicker laminates. For black lines coverage use abs throughout... Expensive? Ask yr ID.

If you go for high gloss acrylic doors with equivalent acrylic edgings (not joint edges visible like laminates unless you are using solid core which is expensive), they are also not scratch resistant, but certainly better than spray paint. Acrylic have limited colors with white and black which I consider most beautiful. Acrylic also not cheap. So is good quality PU spray paint. Can share how much they charge you? Also spray paint they are probably using MDF board which is not suitable for kitchen or high moisture areas coz they expand like chip board.

To see acrylic kitchens, go to lion building, there are some on display.

Thanks for the response Gesnono ! Well i too have doubts to whether the spray painted cabinets can withstand the heat but id debated that the end product would be similar to car paint which bakes in the hot sun. They haven't come out with a quote yet but will share once it's out. Thanks :D
