Commission For Designer?

Recommended Posts

I am shocked to hear from my friend about the amount of commission designer are getting by bringing clients to lighting showroom, curtain shop and also sanitaryware showroom. She said that some lighting shop actually are giving more than 35% of purchase price to the designer, and curtain shop is giving 10-15% while sanitaryware shop is giving 20-30% of the purchase price to designer. This is what she said is the “under the table rule”. I am not sure whether is it true but better safe than sorry, I am not going to bring along any designer or use their recommend shops for my own stuff.”

That's true, but some designers are willing to pass on the savings to you. Mine did and I saved quite a bit on the sanitary wares I got from the store. So I think it really depends on who your ID is and their usual practice. If you are not comfortable, then best to do some research on prices as most RT-ers do.

It's not just designers by the way... contractors also get such commissions.

actually even if u dont go down to the shop urself, u will still be paying for the same price as u would go with a designer / contractor....

and maybe if you go with a contractor / designer, u might get cheaper price

this kind of service from designer is FOC.

There is no difference in price so long as it is not recommended by your ID.haha

Safest is to ask ID what is suitable for your theme then you source around, shortlist those you like then ask ID for advice before buying...

My ID was dying to sell us his contacts for curtains, lightings, electrician, etc and was upset with us when we chose not to use their contacts...:( haiz, anyone who knows of any ID who has no conflict of interests, please share....

I'm no expert, but i have done some homework when i got my new home.

Seriously, there are no free lunch in the world. So long as u do your homework, if the price is too high, dun buy from the place your ID recommend u. If the price is reasonable, just get it and probably ask for a bit of discount. ^_^

Every shop have their "Customer Price" and "ID Price". You will not be short change, dun worry. All the shop will mark up their price, so that they will not kill their "Fixed" Business from the ID. If you were to walk into the shop by yourself, the salesman will be happy n smiling.

Sandwu, your are right some shops share their commissions with the ID without increasing the price for customer... So most important is to do homework to check market rate first before buying (if you are particular about price)... Too bad for us, some recommended by our ID are so much higher than market rate, good thing is we did homework and rejected their offers... but bad thing is ID got upset and markup their costs elsewhere to charge back to us.... Haiz...

AIyah, i also know but how to give if something that cost only 1k plus is being markup to 3-4k -see already also heart pain... All the remaining items add up (if can take) also wont add up to be so much....hence, agree that finding right ID is important... My bad luck - never check properly and sign...will publish the quote here to get some advice from the experts here next time before signing if I ever do it again....

Seriously, If u really do your homework, the price difference from shop to shop is really not tat bad. Their difference is like 5-10% max. Even of the ID where to overcharge u, if you were to use % to count the difference, rather than $ difference, you wouldn't feel tat bad. ^_^

You have to understand why some branded sanitaryware able to provide 50% sales discount, means their profit are more than

50 ah...

there are max end user discount & designer discount so it wouldn't be bad when your ID are able to ask for you

the max end user discount and let them cover their time spend shopping with you, giving you their experienced

advise to save your precious time--- you are not going to get their market designer discount from the shop anyway, so why not

let them do their job by asking discount for you sametime, win win situation :good:

This i agree wif u Seng, ask the ID to ask for discount for u. Should be able to get comparable low price, in the market.

But then again. u must see which shop ur ID bring u to. If they are introducing u all those Europe brands products, u cannot compare wif those China made products. Coz there will definitely be a huge price difference.
