Impact Drill Hammer Function Working?

Recommended Posts

I recently inherited an old Bosch drill from my father (CSB 470-RLE). It must be at least 20 years old. I intend to use it to put up some hanging shelves, curtain rods, etc.

It seems to be a impact drill as there is a switch on the top with a hammer icon.

When I plugged it in to test, the drill spinned but I did not see any hammering action at the drill bit. Is it that the hammering will only happen after I drill into the wall? Or should I be able to see the hammering action even without drilling into the wall? I don't want to put a hole into my wall only to realize the drill is spoilt and cannot complete the drilling.

Hi,

As this is not a heavy duty drill, the impact is very small.

Anyway you should feel it when you switch to the hammer icon,

and you will also feel that the impact is stronger when drilling

into the wall.

But like you said its at least 20yrs already, the hammer impact may

not be working anymore.

Best thing is to find a concrete area and start testing, you will know immediately.

Good Luck!

Thanks papaeund! I tried it out last weekend to put something up. It made several 8mm holes without problems. Guess it is still going strong after 20 years.
