Major Overhaul For Our Tiny Crib

Recommended Posts

Hi LynZie,

It is such a good read going through your T-blog at this hour. First, may I congratulate you and your family on the reno. Hope you are not tiring yourself and please do take care since, I believe from your opening thread, you are into your 8th month with your 4th child. At the same time, I do hope that your hubby is not seriously injured too.

About the gap, I guess you should not worry too much. With the false ceiling, I believe there will be minimum wastage.

I am not sure whether your installation with the gap at the top is normal. Anyway, this is how the glass door is done at my friend's place:

Things came to a halt today.. Table top r up along with e glass doors.. Unfortunately, we can't do any cleaning today as husb had a minor accident at work earlier.. Had a cut at e back of his head n fractured one of his fingers on his right hand..Just got back from fetching him from e hosp after almost a day of observation.. Hopefully it's a blessing in disguise.. :dunno: Gotta start my major clean up tomoro.. E flooring r super dusty even after e cleaning done by e worker on Thursday..

Btw Aya..I notice e unbearable smell in e bottom kitchen cabinets after e table top were installed. E smell wasnt there yest.. Do u encounter e same? If so, what did u use to get rid of e smell? TIA :yamseng:

Oh dear... Sorry Lyn. I just saw your post. Sorry didn't manage to reply you earlier. Oh dear... is your hubby okay now? I hope it is not very serious and hope he is recovering soon. It must have been hard for you. Don't tire yourself okay? If you need help, please let us know. I suggest you and your hubby don't clean the house yourselves. Just engage part-time cleaners/maids to help you with the cleaning. Since your hubby is injured and you are heavy with an unborn baby, don't stress yourself with the cleaning. Part-time maids cost about $50-100 per trip and they are quite efficient in making your house sparkle and free of dust. If you need contact, I can help you search for a contact.

I believe the smell is either the silicon, the glue, or the raw wood smell coming from the inside. When I was cleaning the kitchen cabinet, there is a smell, but not very strong. Probably because my contractor's cleaners have cleaned once, so I did the second round of cleaning. What I did to make the cabinet spaces smell nice is using Dettol multi-purpose cleaning detergent (with lavendar smell) mix with water, and wipe all the cabinet spaces. The cabinets smell nicer than before. Another home remedy method is to mix lemon and water into a bowl (you have to mix many bowls) and leave them in the cabinets for a few hours or 1 day, so that the solution can absorb the smell from the kitchen cabinets. Or you can mix vinegar and water and do the same like the lemon water method. I will suggest using lemon because it smells nicer than vinegar.

The above picture that you posted - the glass sliding door is not acceptable. It looks not stable, and may flip over if accidentally knock on it. There is only two clips (?) clipping the glass panels? Like what is shown in Reiki's picture, the glass panels should fully flush to the track and clip with the "clips". This is a much secure method to prevent the glass panels from falling off, and also prevent the aircon to sip into the kitchen when you on the aircon. Show the picture to your ID, and get him/her to rectify for you. This is definitely not acceptable.

Hi Aya

Sorry for e late reply..has been hectic since e official move on Monday.. also, thanks for e concern..all is fine, thankfully.. It's great to have frens in renotalk who show concern..appreciate it much..

As for e clips or hinges on e glass door, our ID claimed it is e standard installation as ours is made of 1 fixed panel n 1 movable one n e length of e entire glass is not e total width of e living room as we didn't hacked e full wall length. I did also search thru old blogs in renotalk n saw few pics of glass door with e same type of hinges. Hopefully it will stay that way for long..thou my son has a minor accident earlier by knocking himself on e glass door..gonna get decals soon to make e glass door more obvious when closed

Been our 2nd nite here n it seems e aircon in e living room is doing its job well by cooling e area. So I guess e gap doesnt make much of a big issue as there's a false ceiling next to it..

Will definitely ask u for e contact of p/t cleaners should e contact I have is not available.. As for now, since we moved in, we did managed to clean e place up on our own with e help of my mum too.. Not as sparkling as i would want to but ok-to-live-in condition.. :D Thanks for e tip as well for e cabinet smell.. I actually try placing charcoal in e cabinet as per tips in google..then, husb wiped e inners with lavender scented Fabuloso..n me being me, had to have e last touch up with dettol..now it seems e smell is gone :good:

Moving in is no easy feat..esp e cleaning n unpacking.. Still have a few last stuff to unpack..furniture all arranged as planned, floors not as dusty as b4... :good: But e aftermath is ... Massive aching in E.V.E.R.Y part of e body..

We r using our less than 6 mths old sofa, tv console n girl's bedroom set n it was mind boggling trying to fit those in this tiny space.. These furniture which look normal in our previous unit suddenly grew bigger n look huge in our current crib. Fortunately, it is usable n we need not fork out more after splurging on our reno n other expenses..

Will have e glass door workers coming in later in e day for final touches after e tiler replaced e broken tile near to e glass door area.. Will have to remember to call for gas or stove will be on holiday.. Haven bought my rice cooker yet after husb threw e previous one which is still working due to lack of storage space.. Hoping that husb can still hammer some nails to hang our pics.. Will upload more pics when house is so called settled..

Anyway, got a pleasant surprise on our 1st morn at e new place.. A hamper from husb's co for his recent accident.. Coincidentally , it was delivered on his bdae on Labour Day.. Poor deliveyman working on a PH..

Making use of e flowers to brighten up my kitchen..e rest of e kitchen area is unviewable due to e mess :D

Hi Lynzie

I like what you did with your kitchen and the glass panel.

Can you pm me your reno quotation and the cost of the reno in total (inclusive of door, carpentry works, bathroom accessories, etc)?

Thanks!

Hi Lynzie,

Congrats on your new place! Hope you are coping well in your new place. I am wondering if you mind sharing your ID/Contractor contacts as I am looking for one for my 3 room flat too. I don't want to spend too much as our new place is coming in about 1.5yrs time but cos' there is no kitchen in the current place, we need to do some minor reno to it. :D
