edenstrauss 3 Report post Posted April 12, 2012 Hi,I am in the midst of installing false ceiling but in the absence of an ID & lighting knowledge, I am feeling lost as to where to start off in shopping for my downlights & decorative centrepiece for my living & dining rooms.Would any of you guys have any idea on the following issues that I am currently feeling boggled over?a) does the branding of downlights matter? The price range are so varied that some came as cheaply priced as below $10 and the LED versions that run up to more than $50 per piece.b) any aesthetic differences to downlights which are round-shaped or square-shaped?c) are the ergonomics of all downlights the same? Meaning that when the downlights require replacement, do we replace the bulb or do we have to replace the entire fixture that's embedded into the false ceiling? What is recommended by users? We wanted something that's fuss free.(Optiled's version of 16 watts downlights require a replacement of the entire fixture when the bulbs are blown out, meaning that the entire downlight has to be dismantled from the false ceiling.)d) which are the reputable lighting shops with good service that I should be visiting here in Singapore?Shops in JB are not feasible for us so we are only considering lighting stores in Singapore.e) I would also require decorative lights which would become the centrepiece of my living room. In fact I require 2 sets, one of which would be placed in the centre of the ceiling in my dining room. Does anybody have any idea where I could visit for reasonably priced crystal lights or modern looking ones? I visited a couple of lights shop along Jalan Besar road but the price seems too steep for our pockets as the crystal lights range from $700 to $1,400-$2,500.Thanks in advance for any contributions to this thread! How much did you pay for the chandelier from Desigh lights?HiThanks for visiting my blog haven't been updating lately as false ceiling installation is in progress now.I paid $500 for it and the metal parts are made of aluminium. They've got an even larger & glamorous looking version but it doesn't fit into my ceiling as all 4 corners are flanked with 16" Deep L box for cove lighting. But they've got many other designs for chandeliers. Would u be interested to take a look at silic lighting centre @ balestier? U can look for Jenny whose the owner & the only staff in the lighting shop. I love her service. She has a good variety of chandeliers there too. Edited May 30, 2012 by edenstrauss
clpersonal 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2012 Are they the only ones selling aluminum chandeliers? I've not shopped at many lighting shops yet so I'm still shopping around. But $500 seems pretty affordable. Thanks!

But $500 seems pretty affordable. Thanks! At the point of purchase, it seems to be the case but not sure about now becox they have had new arrivals every week & they sell off pretty fast.U can look for Rachel & if u see anything u like, let her know that the lady who bought the aluminium chandalier recommended u & to give best price. If u want chandeliers that come with wrought iron parts, u could try silic @ balestier. They are 2-3 units away from Strauss lighting.Enjoy shopping for your chandeliers! Best wishes:)
