Where should I begin...

Today I will talk about the Renovation preparation that we been thru for the existing Executive Mansionette.

It will be a complete overhaul for the place With budget around 70 - 80K for renovation work only.

We looking for white wall with a touch of wood in the house, parquet flooring, custom made beds, bed frames, wardrobes, cabinets and tv consoles.

Renovating:

3 x bedroom, praying area, living room, kitchen, dining and 3 x bathroom

Our floorplan attached is the original floorplan after the renovation work 15 years ago.

We met with a few Interior Design Company as follow:

1. FSI

Friendly designer, but feels that he is lack of experience. His design is totally off from what we wanted.

1st appt - 30 January 2012

2nd appt - 27 February 2012

2. ZQ Studio

Friendly designer and willing to share a lot of information regarding renovation.

Failed to deliver the design and total quotation on 2nd meeting. The design is the design that anyone of us can think of. The quote that we finally received on 3rd meeting is rather shocking compared to the design that is delivered.

1st appt - 31January 2012

2nd appt - 12 February 2012

3rd appt - 19 February 2012

3. Project File

A very arty designer. He totally sounds like he know what he is doing. And he deliver an interesting design and ideas on top of our request. Very keen to work with us and adjust the quotation for quite a number of time.

1st appt - 01 February 2012

2nd appt - 18 February 2012

4. Artist Room

If we do not have financial restrictions and fengshui restrictions, we will definitely go with Artist Room.

Artist room gives a wonderful design and they have got a great space planning skill. They are friendly, easygoing, and explain the reasons for all the placement of the items in the design.

Their design is really original.

1st appt - 02 February 2012

2nd appt - 02 March 2012

5. Brick n Tungsten

We supposed to meet the designer, however he did not pick up his phone when we call him on the appointed timing and when we finally get to him an hour after the appointed time, all he said was, he forgotten about our appointment. Did not advise or at least apologies and set for another appointment date.

We give up on this ID firm.

1st appt - 19 February 2012 (no-show)

6. Artrend

The ID office is just a few steps away from Brick and Tungsten.

We did not set appointment with the designer and just walk in to the office.

The designer who attend to us are very friendly and understand what kind of design and budget we are on.

1st appt - 19 February 2012

2nd appt - 01 March 2012

7. Black n White House

Same as Artrend, The designer who attend to us are very friendly and understand what kind of design and budget we are on. Quickly make appointment for our second meeting.

1st appt - 20 February 2012

2nd appt - 23 February 2012

8. Three-D-Concept

Met the Senior designer and the Co-ordinator on the 1st meeting.

They've got quite a number of design that always featured in the magazines.

The senior designer is he one who really talk about the design and we are so convinced with him and his design, very artistic and different from others. He state that the whole thing will cost roughly 70 - 80k. Quickly we set for second appointment, however, we are very disappointed when the Senior designer did not show up in the second meeting. The coordinator attend to us and present the proposals and design to us. Doesn't sound convincing at all and it is far over our budget, we decide we will not use them on 2nd meeting.

I guess, the coordinator saw the lacking of interest in us, later on that day, the senior designer called, apologies and reassure us that they are more than excited on our project and would like to secure if possible.

Meet up for the 3rd time and the senior designer gives a great ideas and revise the total amount in the previous quotation.

1st appt - 24 February 2012

2nd appt - 02 March 2012

3rd appt - 06 March 2012

Finally, we decide to go with a friend contractor with our primary design in mind. It fits our budget well and we seen a lot of his previous great work.

Go ahead with our guts feeling!!!

We had paid for the deposit and chosen the floor tiles last week.

We had also chosen our laminates finish with 1 or 2 back up laminates and waiting for all the 3D design to be ready, so we can see the whole feeling of the house.

We will choose the toilet accessories tomorrow morning together with the contractor.

this contractor is really friendly and very straight forward, frank and his service is very personalize.

So........ It's time to sleep now and journey to toilet accessories searching start tomorrow!!

Ciao!!

Interesting variation of layout on the typical 2nd Generation EM. The primary differences appear to be the curved lower floor balcony parapet, but of more value is probably the attached private balcony that the MBR enjoys.

If you don't want your MBR bed to be placed in such a way that your feet aren't pointed at a door, then there's only one way to place it though, as there are three doors in that one bedroom!

Huh? It's a window on the 2nd floor right?

Cleong, yeah, we do own the private balcony at 1st floor, but we close up the balcony due to fengshui 15 years ago.

Adidaem, yes its the small window to aircon unit on 2nd floor MBR.

Lucky that the corner unit going to be my home in the future.

And i will update the 2D and choice of tiles and laminate soon too!!!

We had already choose our floor tiles and laminate for our carpentry works, of course we might change our mind after we see the 3D drawing, so bear with our fickle mind!

TILES:

1. Living room & Praying Hall

Normal Glossy white floor tiles

2. Kitchen

We want our kitchen to be painted white and so only floor tile needed.

3. Level 1 common toilet

Floor tile (Left) + Wall tile (Right)

4. Parents Bathroom Level 2

Shower tile (left) + Floor tile and Wall tile (Top right + bottom right)

5. Master Bathroom

Wall tile (left) + Floor Tile (Right)

Oh and here is the 3D for kitchen:

Due to feng shui, the washing and cooking area have to be far far away.

Yeah, we wanted something simple and clean, with a touch of wood. Hopefully our idea will work.

We believe in using soft furnishing to complete the house :)
