38-Year-Old 3I Corner

Recommended Posts

Hello Monkey3333sg,

Sorry if this comes late;

Welcome to renotalk, good tat your contractor itemise the each works;

Got a couple of question before I begin;

Do you foresee doing plenty of deep-frying or heavy cooking in kitchen?

Else since you have plaster smooth the kitchen walls, tiles are not necesssary

just get a better paint; i.e wash and wear

2.5 Homo/ceramic wall tile for kitchen wall 1600.00

Do you foresee your family doing those 'splash & scrub' washing in your kitchen?

my grandma use to do that, but when I am in my own home, I would at the most mop my kitchen area;

-if you are like me, you can save the base thingy- also restricts the size of future washing machine/ fridge.

2.8 Fridge base and cabinet base with tiles 380.00

2.9 Washing machine base with tiles 100.00

Are you given arcylic solid surface?

I was quoted $70 per foot run (market about $70-$75), hence for your 250cm, should costs about $540-$571.5

2.13 Solid surface top 2500mm 595.00

2.15 Counter c/w Solid surface top (2000x600x850) 1560.00

So you have 2 kitchen cabinets to explain the 2 solid tops?

just a few pointers.

Hope this helps.

-Kitchen: my hubby was suggesting to look for IKEA Faktum, esp now 10% kitchen set promotion. However, all the IDs against the idea. I have saw forum lots of user are happy about IKEA kitchen on the other hand. I am seeking everyone's vote about IKEA Vs ID for kitchen.

-Living room: I love designer's build in full height cabinet, but the price is almost 8000.00! We have no choice but to consider Ikea again.

-Bedroom: Bed head board +2 side tables already cost me 2k, It is soooo costly. Maybe we will switch to platform.

Sincerely seeking help to enlighten us. thank you in advanced.

wow what cabinet costs $8,000?? :jawdrop:

I have not personally used Ikea's kitchen cabinets here, but when I was studying in Sweden, all homes (including the one I rented) used Ikea's kitchen and it functioned well for many many years. Even the hostels ones withstood the rough use of students. I'm not sure what materials is used, but perhaps the humidity here may make it less durable. But if cost is a constraint, Ikea offer good value for money and could easily last 5-10 years. Although people have the impression that Ikea's furniture don't last, the few pieces (bookshelf and tables) I've bought have lasted for the past 5 years.

Obviously IDs will be against the idea since they earn quite abit from carpentry works which may come to 1/3 of total quotation. When it comes to customization, I guess IDs carpentry would fit better as it's fully MTM while there may be some restrictions from Ikea's.

Totally agree! Once bitten, twice shy. I've done away with the base for both too. :D

Greetings all :)

We just confirmed a 38-year-old 3I unit two days ago. The previous owner kept the house in a very good condition. However, the design concept is different from ours. Therefore, we got to start preparing all the necessary information for the renovation. Hope this learning journey would be fun. Well, a picture tells a thousand words, here I come:
