May: Hmm.. I have not thought of laying the tiles horizontally or vertically, but both has its advantage. I think I'm fine with both, but horizontal may look more classy and "look" bigger. My toilets are very cramp, maybe horizontal tiles might be better for my toilets

yup, both have its advantages. Everyone thinks toilets are small for HDB so mostly put as horizontal. but the effect of vertical are quite good too..... you have to draw to see the effect... i was drawing and drawing too.

END OF DAY FIVE

We appreciate Kevin's workers hard work and effort today. Demolition work is almost completed. Tomorrow they will continue to do the hacking, and our electrician will come in to remove the wires.

Hubby tried to climb over the debris to take a look just now, but he couldn't get into the kitchen because the entrance is blocked with debris. I didn't go in, standing from outside I could smell the pungent smell coming out from the house. The smell could have come from the toilet bowls. I was standing outside the house, chitting with my new neighbour, at the same time apologise to them for the disturbance during the renovation. I hope they will not be angry with me.

As per my request, Kevin took the photos and sent to me after end of the work for today

Hi Valerie. We do not intend to do box up for the pipes in toilets. We will leave the pipes expose in case the pipe leaks or downstair neighbour complains leaking, we don't need to remove the box to fix the pipes. BTW, this pipe you see now is an air pipe. Kevin will let us know if HDB allows us to remove this pipe. If approve, lucky for us.

My hubby sacrificed his lunch time to go back home and check on the progress. His office is not very near from home.

Hi Pirvan. Thank you for visiting our t-blog, and thank you for your best wishes. I understand how you feel, including myself, can't contain our excitement. It is natural that we will check on the house every now and then because we want our home renovation to progress smoothly, and ensure we and ID/contractor are satisfied with the end results. Everyday we look forward to moving in new house, afterall this is our new house. In future if we move again, we will still feel the same excitement because we are having a new home again.

What do you mean by air pipe? I didn't know it can be removed! Seems like a great news if it can be out of sight.

hi Valerie, that pipe does not contain water and is a pipe for the water bubble and air to escape to the roof as there is a trap preventing the stinky air to come back into our house. but we dunno if HDB will approve us cutting off the pipe or not. i have seen a few examples of people removing the pipe to make their toilet more spacious before in the forum. forgotten where i saw it from.. if not can paste u the link.

"The venting system, or plumbing vents, consists of pipes leading from waste pipes to the outdoors, usually through the roof. Vents provide a means to release sewer gases outside instead of inside the house. Vents also admit oxygen to the waste system to allow aerobic sewage digestion. Vents provide a way to equalize the pressure on both sides of trap, thereby allowing the trap to hold water, which is needed to maintain effectiveness of the trap."

i cut and paste it from wiki.. lol. hopefully u understand what it is now. after reading what it's about.. i think mayb dont cut the pipe better.. in case next time the air pressure cannot release.. than our toilet clog... hahaha

please correct me if i'm wrong :yamseng:

Oopss.. sounds like not a good idea to remove the gas pipe! Else your toilet will stink! Just leave it there and make it look more industrial with the pipe. That's what i think. :P

DAY SIX

Hubby is busy today, so it is my turn to rush back home during lunch time to take a quick glance on the renovation progress. I can't help it, but feeling excited to look forward to seeing each day progress. When I was there, the electricians are clearing the wires and casements in plastic bags, waiting for their driver to pick them up. Temporary electrical point is also fixed up.

This is the new MBR door entrance. Three room doors are now placed together to form a short corridor way

See that piece of remaining wall. That is 6 feet length wall, and that will be my wardrobe size :o Wardrobe is reduced by 1 feet length. We can't have wardrobe of the other side of the wall because we bought a king sized bed, and there is not enough walking space if we place the wardrobe in front of our bed. We have to step on our bed in order to get to the toilet, and out to the door.

Electrical wires and casements are dismantled

And I didn't ill-treat the workers. I bought them each a Coca Cola to reward them :D

When I was about to leave the house, I saw another worker came up with many other tools. They told me that they will be doing the cement and sand tomorrow, then Thursday will start the tiling works. I supposed I will see the debris gone by this evening or tomorrow morning.

Albert: Good idea. Next visit I bring some for them. Earlier they were asking me if there were cold beers for them. I said I bought only coke, next round I bring some beers.

I felt that our MBR is very small. The 2nd bedroom is even larger than MBR. I can only have a queen sized bed as I need a dressing table and bedside table.
