Carpentry Quote Reasonable?

Hi guys, am currently in the midst of doing a full reno on my 3rm resale flat.

i got a quote from a furniture shop recommended by my uncle,

1)shoe cabinet 600mm by 350mm = $900

2)oven cabinet 600mm by 750mm = $1000 (include soft stop)

3)kitchen island 3000mm by 1000mm = $6600 (including solid surface and soft stop)

total = $8.5k

is it reasonable?

Little Too expensive for me

Afterall it depend what kind of material is used.

But if you have seen a finished project done by them before

and you are satisfied with the workmanship,then go ahead.

aniwae, to cut short

1) Did u bargain? (coz i know ppl who are too paiseh or scared to bargain when it's recommended by your who & who, & in the end kenna chop)

2) Look for more quotes/contacts online or from ppl & call for more comparison. If 10 companies u call, 9 told u need $8-9k, then prob you muz depend on ur bargaining skill, pls pls pls, dun be afraid to ask for lower (but dun go too extreme and ask for 90% off this type, be reasonable), and always get important stuff written in black & white, eg if they promise full length glass, get them to write the word full length, so that they cannot play pattern and give u diff thing)

3) I had reno 2-3 years back , paid $6000+ in total for my built-in kit cab (self design, not those standard design) + a bar counter + island top + oven cabinet (or oven "hole"). Not granite or marble thou, just laminated solid surface. This company is situated in a factory area thou and specialise in wood and metal, so dats y cheaper i guess, cut away middle man.

PS: I dont think inflation shot up so fast within 2 years.

1) yea i did bargain and they just insisted on the price. maybe i am not so good at it. hahaha

2) now this is the part where it's screwed up. I got this so called "trust-able" mom's cousin to do the whole reno for my 3rm. He assure me again and again that he will let his sub-con quote me direct and will not earn a single cent. I tried trusting him bah, since my mom is confident that he wouldnt do anything funny.

He kept pushing me to his in laws furniture shop at serangoon, saying its cheaper and better then ikea watsoever. I am not interested at all in those old school furniture. Then when it came to carpentry, i was shocked when he sent the owner of the furniture shop to quote for carpentry. few days later, quoted a ridiculous price of 8500 for this 3 item.

3)I am so angry and pissed all bcos i trusted this uncle, so much so that i didnt have any alternative quote and this is becoming a urgent job. anyways my other closer uncle had recommended another carpenter who quoted me 480(shoe cabinet) 640(oven cabinet) and 4000(island including solid surface). Think this is more reasonable - he just called me and offer 10% discount on all this.

Hai, really regretted using this uncle, i spent about 35k for a 3rm and had to do design work, coordination and almost went down site everyday. I actually got a very good id willing to do all this for 30++k and best part is i dont have to do anything (other than choosing wat i like la). Really is a slap in the face, learnt so much about trusting "relative".

sorry for rant, just really frustrated. all i want now is for my house to be ready next 2 weeks.
