Guest our-home Report post Posted September 2, 2008 (edited) Hi convoy FYI, I called two parquet companies recently and was quoted $200+ to revarnish one bedroom floor (4-room flat). They didn't specify whether there was sanding and what type of varnish would be used. In the end, my contractor is doing it instead, $180 for one bedroom floor + skirting - light sanding and revarnishing. Will need to check what type of varnish he'll be using though. Just found out on 5 Sept from the contractor that the parquet floor below the window is badly damaged cos of constant rain-water seepage and may require machine re-grinding. One bedroom will cost an additional $250. Still thinking about it. Edited September 6, 2008 by our-home

WH1988 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 Hi everyone I've once tried DIY a small area of Teak flooring in one of my master room fill with dents. I must said it is hardwork plus backache with all the sanding, patching and varnishing. However in the end I could not get same matt finish as the rest of the Teak flooring. I ended up calling the professional and was glad I've done so because my Teak flooring which was only 12mm thick minus the inital sanding when my Teak flooring was first installed I was left with less then 5mm of surface thickness before it reach the tongue and groove of the Teak flooring. Hence the contractor said they have to be very careful to prevent oversanding. Correct sand paper grit and equipment have to be use. Especially when using big sanding machince which could easily eat up a lot of the surface thickness before we even noticed. Well the Teak flooring is now serving a new owner who is also fond of Teak flooring. Hence unless you've experience in carpentry work or have done this before. It is best to get professional opinion first before jumping to DIY.
