sawyer 3 Report post Posted February 8, 2012 Dear forummers,Needed some input and advice for a budget reno on a 4room new flat. Pardon me for my long naggy post, as this is my first time having a new flat with my wife and im trying my best to ask and learn and absorb as many as possible. In the event of this long post, i may miss out certain things, please correct me whenever possible, and if possible can help to fill in the estimated cost and company name, much appreciated. Hope the question and answer given will benefit not only me, but to the rest of the forummers as well Floor - No default ceramic tiles, thus is assume no hacking. Going for laminate flooring. Despite the much pros and cons, as of now, homogenous tiles is way too expensive for my budget. From the info i gather, Supreme and Pergo lamination is being mention alot of times. Say if im engaing a contractor/ID, whats the cost likely to occur if im doing my living room, masterbed room, and both common rooms? As for kitchen, likely will go for ceramic tiles instead of lamination. Ceiling - False ceiling for whole living room or half living room? Which is better? And simple cornice for every room with spot lights install. Usually does the cost of wiring will be included? And will be installing a ceiling fan on living room and master bedroom only.Paint - Going for white color. What sort of painting should i go for, for a new flat? Ive heard of contrators using cheap paint when owner is not around. How can i tell the difference? Walls - Normal Tv feature walls will do.Rooms - Build in cabinet for Masterbed room and one common room. What sort of wood should i avoid in terms of durability and cost wise.Kitchen - Build in cabinets, with which ok table top for a budget reno?Toilet - Glass doors at shower area, and those cabinet below the sinks. How much does it cost? Im a very rain shower person, so, will install a rain shower head, which kind of water heater and shower head should i go for? Is it going to cost me a bomb for this "enjoying" during shower?I know there is alot more, but this is all i can think of now. My budget for reno, i only set it at 20k as im in the transactionof changing job, spending too much will only put me at a disadvantage spot for now.Thank you guy in advanced for the help and input given. r01 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2012 Pergo and supreme are long time brands since last time. Being famous does not mean that other brands are lousy, just skip china products as overall brands are ok. Right choice for kitchen, laminate flooring has too much negatives in being the floor for kitchen, like water, oil, heat etc. False ceiling for whole unless you like having downlights around, depending on the design intended, the only reason for half or portion ceiling only, would be the intention to segregate visually the intended spaces. Spotlights would be too glaring for residential, only used for shining on intended items to attract attention. Indirect lights creates best cosy ambience you would need. Wiring are usually a seperate cost as electricians are another group of people. Try not white but off white or cream, usually do not recommend white in ID term as it would be too 'cold' unless the whites are intended to be as 'invisible' possible and having attention of other spaces or items. Usually carpentry uses plywood and they are ok as long as it is not exposed to heat and water. Solid surface for kitchen tops if you have a budget. Yes rain shower are not cheap depending on how much you have in budget. A quote on www.facebook.com/objetdart.singapore states a house is 3/4 of your life which you spent in, never stinge on it, a few more gd stuffs you can get ideas.
