System 3+1 Or System 4

Recommended Posts

Hi ALL,

My hubs and I have just gotten our keys.. (so many things to think and do!)

We are still discussing about the aircon.

We have read about aircons but we still cannot decide whether to settle with a Sys 3+1 or a Sys 4.

Factors affecting our decision:

(1) Price

(2) Usage

(3) Floor Plan

(4) Maintenance

(5) Bills

For PRICE, we went to AllBest to ask. We narrowed down to Panasonic and Mitsubishi Starmex.

Panasonic does not have a System 4 so cost is about $2599 (for a System 3) + 1 Single split at $1.3k.

Mitsubishi S costs $3k plus for a System 4.

Price wise, it will be about the same (maybe just $100 - $200 difference) comparing these two.

For USAGE, we will not turn on much for the hall. Think only when we have guests or when it gets really really hot! Rooms, most likely two units will be on, definitely not all three at night. Our house is about 92sqm, but we intend to have a semi-open Kitchen concept (would that affect?) We understand a Sys 4 aircon has an 18,000 BTU (is that enough to power up?)

For FLOOR PLAN, we just wondering if there will be any problems in terms of trunking for a Sys 4.

For MAINTENANCE, we want an aircon that doesn't break down easily if using a Sys or get yellow easily etc. Any recommendations? So far, Mitsubishi Starmex has better reviews amongst our peers but I wuold like to hear more feedback from others.

For BILLS, cost efficiency. Do they really save bills as what they claim? Does Mit Starmex really save up to 70% of bills? Can other brands do the same, but cost cheaper and also as sturdy as Mit S?

You probably hear this a thousand times but hope you could share with me your experience or knowledge.

Thank you once again!

Let me help you with what i went through myself during my reno period...

I presume yours would be a new home thus come with the air-con ledge. Basically if price is your concern, i would think that a sys 4 would suit u more coz if a sys 3 + 1 , usually the 1 would require extra space which can be another additional cost of 100 plus if i din rem wrongly.

As yours is an semi-open concept, i'm not too sure whether that would affect it.... but 18k btu is for the living room FC or the whole thing? There's a diff in that.. gotta make sure on it.

Pricing-wise, you also need to consider on the materials used. Like the drainage pipe and insulation pipes etc.

For the maintenance and bills , can't really comment on that as I haven't moved in yet.. but my current house, we are using Starmex Sys 3 for quite some time, and my parents and sis on it almost everyday 7 days a week, and the bill is around 200 plus? Is that considered ex, i'm not too sure.

Btw, i did a System 4 for my place if you're wondering. Hope this little bit helps. if you need more info, do let me know.

Thanks alot... :) we might just do a sys 3 and leave the hall without aircon..

If we hv open concept kitchen, then we will most likely take a system 3 :)

Any good sys 4 to recommend? Occasion on for the huge living room (5A resale - 133sqm). Sparingly usage for MBR as my wife's sinus don't allow us to have Aircon on through out.

Only 2 of us at the moment.

I am renovating my resale flat. It comes with a daikin non-inverter sys3. age - unknown. The aircon contractor inspected and say that it's still fine to carry on using. I would like to add a new FCU maybe 18k btu to the living room. more cost effective to re-run all the worn out pipes + a new FCU or change the entire unit to a sys 4, inverter/non-inverter? I recon the cost will be doubled for a new system 4?

To r0_ger

How u estimate ur usage is going to be?

If ur existing non inverter sys 3 can add 1 more fcu, then your outdoor should be ma56ev1 (system 4 outdoor)

light I guess... My MBR will not have aircon throughout nite. At most 1-2 hrs before bed time. Hall will be occasional hosting of guests, maybe 4-5 hrs weekend. I will supplement my hall with a ceiling fan and a 18,000 BTU FCU for efficient cooling effect.

The other 2 rooms are currently vacant. one will be the study room and air con is not necessary.

Ur usage is considered quite low, u may consider to stick with ur current non inverter and add one fcu for the living room.

but will the consumption be too much since I only on 1 FCU most of the time and i guess inverter will be more "efficient" in terms of power consumption?

on the hindsight, I think the savings from the bills will not be enough to justify the cost of a new inverter sys4.
