High Ceiling Design Ideas

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just got my unit recently, and because of the coming Chinese New Yr, with IDs and contracters taking a break and all, i have some time to think about what kinda design i want.

Anyways, My living room has a high ceiling, and its rather spacious. However, due to the staircase, i realised that space planning is proving to be a nightmare.

Here are some really LOUSY pics i took, would appreciate any comments/ideas, on how you guys would do the place up. Don't have a huge budget and prefer modern/minimalism look. So i'm thinking minimal carpentry, and splurging maybe a little more on focal pt items, like a really nice hanging light, etc...

Definitely consider hanging a few (maybe 3 or 4) of Moooi's Random Lamp (or at least something with a similar aesthetic) within the main living area. It's dramatic, without being too overwhelming. Hang it in an assortment of heights, and and assortment of sizes.

Another option for your area would be the Gino Sarfatti chandelier 2097 by Flos. Replicas are avaliable.

Beyond that, stick to wall and table lamps - you want the furniture to appear visually low so as to emphasise the loftiness of the space.

Think about ease of maintenance/bulb changes. Given the height, I'll stick to LED lights.

Space furniture at Bencoolen have some spaces high ceiling. You can have a look at how they decorated the space. Personally I like the Moooi Raimond lamp in a few sizes.

some wall lights or wallwashers will help to define the perimeter of a huge space and provide practical illumination. Large, tall and blank walls without lighting might cast a suppressive atmosphere at night. Wall lights on columns can enhance the depth and contrast of the space in conjunction with your pendant lights.

Hope this helps.
