Strawbeari 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2012 Hello, I am considering tiles that look like wood floorings for my 4RM HDB flat but I am not sure if it is good or not and will it be a lot more expensive than normal tiles for HDB flats. Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences about this type of tiles, so far I've only read that there are 2 shops in SG that sell this type of tiles (yet to check them out), I've seen beautiful ones online but they are from the US. Is it easier to maintain as compared to wood flooring? And I heard that colored tiles tend to change colors, is it true? Looking forward to your advise. yoongf 11 Report post Posted January 6, 2012 I have used a lot of them. Prices psf is more or less similar, unless u go for those really exotic designs, where the psf is similar to comparessd marble. No regrets. There are several issues to consider.1. Wood gives u warm feel. Tiles are cold. Can u accept the coldness?2. There are those truly flat tiles, but I prefer those with chamfered edges, and more textured. They look more natural.3. these tiles are rectangular, 100mm X 900mm. and most are warped due to their length. Thus need bigger gaps between the tiles so the warpage is not obvious.4. Stagger the tiles. Wood strips are never aligned perfectly.5. These tiles are printed, and the design is not full bodied. So.. edging needs special attention. I really like wood but I've had bad experience with them since I'm not good at taking care of them so I am happy when I found out that there are tiles and they look great too! With their colors and textures, I find them very attractive.

I really like wood but I've had bad experience with them since I'm not good at taking care of them so I am happy when I found out that there are tiles and they look great too! With their colors and textures, I find them very attractive. Hey there,How goes the selection process? Hope you have found what you liked.I was also looking for ceramic wooden tiles (did not like laminate flooring) also because our 12-yr old arthritic dog could walk better on a textured surface, as adviced by the vet..Went to White Horse Ceramics, Soon Bee Huat and Hafery (hope I got the spelling right..) also to GF+A..It depends on what colour/texture one is looking for. Initially, I wanted dark (with reddish tones) but because our flat seems quite dark..thought white would be better. My favourite tile (colour off white/smokey grey) had an uneven edge..was advised against taking it (unless for balcony use)But in the end, we settled on a cream/light wood tone instead. Reason being difference in texture.I prefer long tiles..and have seen layouts/pict that you posted above which is a combination of different widths. My concern was that I did not want a tile with many 'grooves' that are too 'deep'..maybe rougher texture, or dirt gets more easily trapped? But I suppose one gets used to it over time..The tile we chose is much longer and broader than the usual measurements of the other tiles. It is textured and the markings are like natural wood. It is also a flat tile (no uneven edges). For kitchen, went with a white tile (different model) pity it does not come in the longer length.. Easy to care for..just mop..no worries about humidity/water issues. Was fortunate to have a good tiler/contractor (hacked the flooring as well) and the lines look great, even & neat. We only went down twice during the renvo process, once to confirm the layout of the tiles, second time my cousin wanted to visit. I didn't see the tiling process at all..just the finished floor..heh..even though it is our first time renvo, I think in most cases, have to drop by every now & then to check? I just left my contractor & team to it
Brylina 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2012 Hi, would like to find out too if special care is needed for ceramic wood tiles? Besides the cold feel, any other Cons to take note of?Thanks
yoongf 11 Report post Posted October 8, 2012 Very slippery when wet. and that's a bigger issue since ppl normally associate a wooden floor as being rough when wet.
Jessmint 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2012 Dear folks,Please beware of this company called natural wood that does timber flooring. His name is called Bryan, hp 8410 9380. . He quoted to do my planter area for $900 but in the end charge me $950 as he said he will only rebate me the $50 if 2 of my relatives engage his services too. He has not done a satisfactory job for my place. Below are a list of the job not well done.1) one plank of the wood was totally different from the rest of them.2) there were bumps on the timber wood surface and when scrap off revealed the flesh of the wood. 3) he had in the process of laying the timber flooring chipped off the corner walls of my planter area.4) the varnish applied to the wood had stained my floor tiles near the living hall as well. 5) the wood has multiples scratches.6) there were many visible nail holes which made the planter area totally unsightly as the holes were of another colour. When he came for the first time to look at the defects, he just flatly rejected changing the off colour wood and said that it's not possible for him to find matching ones. I didn't ask for matching just close to similar. After pointing out the above defects, he just ignored me and told my hubby that he is leaving.I then called him and he refused to pick up. When I called him the second time, he hang up on me after I asked him when he was coming to rectify the above defects. If this was the kind of service I knew he will be offering, I wouldn't have engaged his services. I have since told my neighbor not to use him as well.I then called nature wood to complain about him and the receptionist said he is a customer of theirs. I spoke to nature wood boss and he said this Bryan guy actually uses a similar name to his company called NATURAL WOOD. and that there's nothing that they can do about it.This Bryan guy from NATURAL WOOD HAS ZERO AFTERSALES SERVICE and uses a less than superior timber wood . FOLKS, PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS BRYAN GUY! After this post he may change hp number, anyway he is bald. Just beware of him if you do not want poor AFTERSALES service. Even though the warranty is for 10 years, I do not think he will provide any good service especially since he can just walked out from my unit and hang up on me during our conversation.
