Living Room Space Suggestion And Lighting

Recommended Posts

Hi all, need some suggestion of my living room area. The floor plan is not mine (Sorry!), my unit is similar to it except it doesn't has a balcony, and the household shelter is longer (That's why I drew the red question mark box bigger to illustrate a bigger space).

I have decided to make the suggested study area into a study cum entertainment room (Sounds weird I know :P Still trying to design it haha). D is the dining table area, so that left me with basically 2 square box area in the living room area. I am having trouble deciding should I put something at the question mark area? Or just simply extend my TV/couching area all the way to the ? box.

Me and my wife don't have any particular hobby that required that whole corner, she love to sleep (lol), and for me, I will just play games, watch movie when I have free time but I could do that in the study cum entertainment room. I have some toy collection, not huge in amount, which I intend to place in the study/entertainment room. My wife thought of making it as a cosy corner but no idea how to go about with it. Any suggestion?

Oh and I have drew out a light green line along the living area which I intend to do L box with cove and downlight and a ceiling fan in the center with light as well. Is that a good idea?

Thanks in advance :)

Cove lighting with ceiling fan = flickering walls

Ceiling fan with light = flickering ceiling

In short, very bad idea.

Take a walk around some new blocks where units come with full-height living room windows. Look up into the units and you'll see what I mean.

So basically its false ceiling around the corner of the living area, and ceiling fan attached to the real ceiling at the center of the living room? I am thinking of that too.

Do you think it's better to have a full partitioned, half glassed or open concept study room? Couldn't decide on that cos if full partitioned it will makes the living room much smaller.

u might have to get full height partition for the study as u want it to be an entertainment room as well.

u can have something like this : http://www.slidingglassdoors.info/images/SlidingGlassDoors%20(1).jpg

as for the cove light, if u do it like that, then u intentionally considering those 2 box area as 1 whole area.

so I think u can extend the tv console design and have a smaller cozy corner beside the HS, can put something like this counter : http://archnewhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/floating-mini-bar-Casa-CC-by-Longhi-Architects.jpg

Huge living will make the whole hall looks bigger.

Ceiling fan should be fine with the flickering, just need to find the right size, since ur living hall is quite big too, so distance from the fan to the lighting source need to arrange.
