T5 Or Led Strip For Cove Light

Hi;

Need some advice.... is T5 or LED strip(5050) recommended for cove light.

I understand that LED is more on energy saving, but afraid in term of brightness, LED strips are less

brighter than T5 light.

Manage to get important advice from one of the light expert and showcase to me.

If using LED strips (be it using 5050 standard or high density), the brightness will be only along the L-Box, the middle of the surrounding L-box will be quite dark/dim

If using T5 tube light, the whole room will be cosy lighted up using warm white.

In the end, I selected T5 cause my living area exclude dining area, is quite big(4.7m by 4m). Although I know LED is energy saving, but feeling and right amount of lights are my top prority.

For those with small room, using LED strips should be okay.

The light expert also told me that LED strips are usually use on platfrom, stairways, display cab, wardrobe, kitchen area.

If you want to have exact feel, brightness and see the LED strips decoration, go to sim lim sq. A lot of shops used LED strips on their display cabinet. (Just my personal thought)

T5 is an omni-directional light source, emitting light 360 deg from its surface whereas LED usually features a beam angle of 120deg. Cove light is an indirect light source which means most of the light is bounced to the ceiling by the surrounding surfaces.

Many contractors, either due to lack of knowledge or constraint of ceiling height, construct L-box with very limited drop from ceiling, sometime only 10cm. Be it LED or T5, light is trapped in the L-box, unable to diffuse out onto the ceiling surface, resulting in a narrow light bar instead of soft and even light on the ceiling.

Optimal cove light diffusion on the ceiling requires min.20-30cm of gap between the light and ceiling. In theory, if properly positioned and installed, both LED and T5 should deliver adequate lighting effect.

I've enquired around on LED downlights. I noticed some use the small bulb with 3 or 4 Led Light Accessories Connector / Power Wire LED Power Supplies tiny LEDs inside, commonly known as MR16. While others use the square casing type where you can't open to see what's inside.
