I've first mentioned about this 艺美苑 (Yi Mei Yuan) art gallery under my thread on artistic buddha potraits at the following link:

Hey folks, wait a minute...

Please continue to read on even at the first mention of the word "Art Gallery" in my opening statement in this thread.

Many Singaporeans, including myself & our relatives would typically start shrinking under our skin when we hear the word "Art" matched against the other big word "GALLERY".

Reason is simple: Art Galleries seems to be closely associated with another word "Expensive".

However, I was pleasantly surprised that Mr Yong's art pieces are definitely affordable & not expensive based on the workmanship. I expected the price to be steep in view of the high rental cost & overheads. Afterall, Lucky Chinatown is owned by Far East Organisation so the rental cost wouldn't be cheap.

Just take a look at the chinese wordings in red that were pasted onto the glass panel of his art gallery - It meant something along the lines that say "value for money". :)

(Oops, just realised that I forgot to include their contact numbers after doing up this thread...

tel: 6-225-2961 / Mr Yong @ 9052-9556 )

And not forgetting the great service too!

My brother inlaw bought a huge portrait associated with a chinese deity & during the installation which was thrown in free when he bought the painting from 艺美苑 (Yi Mei Yuan) art gallery, he changed his mind not once, but thrice about where he wanted to hang the picture.

Successive drilling was done on his living room's wall & changes were made. But the installer said nothing & was very patient with him.

(I'm unable to take a photograph of the painting he bought becox he claimed that it has already been enshrined but I haven't heard of such practices on canvas painting! Oh well...)

And I've been wanting to do a write-up on 艺美苑 (Yi Mei Yuan) art gallery for a very long time but my hands were just too full, exploding with both work & domestic commitments, including DIY-ing stuff for our existing (old) flat.

I'm supposed to get a gold framing for my existing buddha portrait but I just didn't have the time to make my way down until a couple of days ago.

(I would be uploading my portrait with the gold framing once it's completed.)

The owner, 杨峰 (Mr Yong) whose a very young-looking grandpa of China descent, had granted me the permission to take photographs of the canvas paintings displayed in his art gallery.

He is also a very patient & cultured person whose pretty soft-spoken. And definitely nothing like the other China owner (competitor) facing Tanjong Pagar Road, whose crude & unhelpful unless we have bought any paintings from them!

So for those of you whose considering canvas painting that's reasonably priced with good workmanship, please do give 艺美苑 (Yi Mei Yuan) art gallery your valuable support!

This is a photograph of his Art Gallery. The glass door through the exit opens at the left hand side of the photograph as you could see from the glass reflection (of somebody's hand opening the door).

Let's take a look at some of the artwork found in his art gallery.

Peonies painted on "gold foil" ...

This is a signature piece which had been one of my favourites but I simply couldn't find a section of the wall at home to accomodate this beautiful artwork of Peonies painted on canvas that is covered with gold foil...

In view of the limitations from my camera & the less than ideal lighting effects in the art gallery for photography, the photographs didn't do the real painting absolute justice!

The real stuff looks beautiful & definitely a piece of artwork from my perspective as a person whose still learning to appreciate art. It would have brought so much beauty & elegance to any home. It reminded me of posh chinese restaurants & the hotel lobbies - I wished I had a private lobby myself too! :P

The photograph is my attempt to try to show a close-up of the surface of the art piece. However, it's a pity that the peonies didn't look glossy & as vibrant as the actual art work.

The gold undertone had been greatly exaggerated in terms of its colour saturation when I've taken the photograph with flashlights:

I just love love love this set of artwork which came in 4 panels but... no place for hanging it. *sigh* Would just have to give it a miss. :~

Lotus on canvas ...

This lotus-motif canvas painting is done in a what I would call, the "Vincent van Gough" style.

But I'm commenting on this as a layman. :P Hence, My humble apologies for my ignorance if there are any artisans or experts reviewing this thread. :)

I've set my sights on a couple of mini-paintings but am trying to figure out where I should be hanging them as I'm staying in a flat. How I wished that I've got more walls for hanging paintings.

This is a painting of lotus on canvas which are wrapped in gold foil.

6466768181_6a301eaacb.jpg

Alright folks, this one doesn't look as impressive. Some of you might just feel that it's "obiang" or quite bollywood style when it comes to the colour combination.

However, the real thing is alot more beautiful as compared to the photograph which unfortunately, gave the canvas painting a very "flat" 2D tone, and not the 3D feeling that you get when u look at it in person.

The background had been covered with gold foil by the artist prior to painting it with lotus motifs. And the gold dust doesn't show up in the photograph.

A duo of Ballerinas ...

When I first set my eyes on this elegant painting, I am immediately reminded of the ballerinas in the Natalie Portman's movie, The Black Swan.

I tried to capture the beauty of the canvas painting at different angles, including photoshooting right in front of it. However, the ceiling lights right on top made it impossible.

As such, the photograph had to be taken at an angle - sorry about that.

While I was walking around in the art gallery, I stumbled upon a beautiful canvas painting of artistic nature which in my opinion, would be suitable appropriate for private boudoirs, spas or beauty palors.

I've taken a snapshot of this painting, depicting a courtesan or royal concubine of the Tang dynastic era. It isn't sleazy by nature & would be well-appreciated from the artistic perspective.

After editing the painting, I've decided to seek the approval of the forum's management prior to launching it on this thread.

However, I haven't heard from admin so I sized up that the message meant a NO.

As such, I've colour-blocked a section of it in white. Please take a look @ this beautiful painting:

The symbolic series : Horses galloping across the field ...

This canvas painting depicts 9 horses running happily across the green pasture and is good for it to be placed such that the horses were running through the window - that's if u could comprehend this from the fengshui's perspective.

6471879163_5465a522a8_z.jpg

Although the painting is symbolic by nature where 8 horses were running into the home through the window (or say, door), the style is too "flat" for my taste becox I prefer canvas painting that has a 3D (3-dimensional) feel to it.

However, it's still a good buy if it matches a home's fengshui requirements.

The symbolic series : 9 carps in a pond ...

Another painting of symbolic nature is this version that shows 9 carps swimming in a pool of lotus flower.

Such paintings are pretty popular among the Chinese & for those who believes in using pictures for fengshui purposes.

It's definitely an auspicious painting! :)

The symbolic series : Chinese Landscape (scenary painting) ...

Awesome, beautiful, heavenly & "breathing in life" is how I would describe this gorgeous chinese landscape painting! :D

However, these photographs don't do the painting justice becox you've got to see the painting in person to get what I mean...

Can you see the 3D effects of the hill on the left hand side of the painting? I hope that it doesn't sound Greek to all of you. :P

6471901869_702edcf7fc_z.jpg

This is definitely one of my favourite (chinese) landscape paintings in the art gallery.

6471901875_85f8eb53c8_z.jpg

I've tried my best to capture the 3-dimensional beauty of this heavenly scenary depicted on the canvas. It's definitely a challenge becox it's extremely tough to capture the graduation of oil paint which is done with a technique that gives it a 3D feel to the painting.

However, please do not mistaken or interpret my description as one that's made up of thick, lumpy oil paints that is found rampantly in some galleries.

The artist who drew up this beautiful painting is someone whose great ingenuity in his/ her art of canvas painting. :thumbs up: It's definitely not easy to come up with something at such a magniture.

From my perspective, canvas painting of chinese landscape scenary is an even greater challenge as compared to the conventional version on rice paper. If it isn't done properly, it could look "flat" & boring... something that came across as being duplicated through coloured printing.

This version is definitely many notches above your run of the mill that's being peddled out there at a much lower price of below $100.

If you take a look @ the direction of the waterfall, it's also a symbolic painting for those who believe in using pictures to uplift fengshui of their premises. However, the orientation should be such that the waterfall is entering through the door or windows.

The symbolic series : A ship sailing in the choppy sea ...

This is a photograph of a huge ship sailing in the sea with choppy waves & a symbolic painting which is a good buy for those who require it. :D

6471879181_6dc1d5f9e6_z.jpg

It might come across as something that is cliche & old school like what some of the forumers had suggested before in other threads where fengshui is concerned. However, it had worked for my dad many years ago in his previous house.

So whether it's cliche or old-fashioned or the traditional businessmen type of practices, if it works, then why not?
