Lukie's First Home

Recommended Posts

We went over to the house last weekend. The electrical wires, L box and water pipes were up. Grooves were also filled up.

We got this through chling's contact

img2012030400518.jpg

We got the main door lock and installed it....without the tongue as we couldn't get it out. So end up we got the contractor to get his locksmith to "complete" the installation. The contractor also changed a latch for the gate.

Total = 20*3 for the bedroom door locks + 40 for the main door + 40 for the gate latch

The citygas heater is up. I wasn't there to see how the gas pipe installation is.

img20120305wa000.jpg

I don't like Citygas's charges.

The heater cost 168 with 60 free pipe installation. And they charge another 100 for cooking gas pipe installation?? I thought entry gas pipe should be the same? Anyone can advise? I mean I still have not seen the installation.

Notice also the grilles were removed to facilitate the tiling works. Got the quotation from contractor it's 130 to install the grilles back.

Previously I intended to remove the grilles and change windows but I changed my mind just before work started.

Today, I got a call from my contractor. He said the painters found gaps between some of the original electrical trunking (I didnt change all) and the walls as the walls arent straight. He asked if I wanted to plaster so I thought ok lah, one shot.

This cost me another 140.

cos sometimes they get to earn extra if you don't install gas heater. from the installation of the storage heater to commission if you buy heater from his recommended place etc..... and also, if you use gas heater, then he have to help to coordinate for you with city gas. a bit more troublesome than his sub-con that they know.

Yup, they keep asking me to get storage heater but my mum is using storage and I hate it when I have to wait for like 15mins to have hot water.

Then they tell me citigas heater's flame will be blown off half way thru your shower i f wind blows this n that... Is that true?

Also, may I know do I have to wait for hot water to come like the storage heater? Or it's like instant?

**thinking of starting my own Reno blog but will only collect keys in may, too early I guess**

ya, i hate to use storage too. There was once that i was using the storage and half way through, there was no more hot water. i have to wait like 10 mins in the shower for the hot water to be heated up for me to use. so upsetting! :furious:

Yes, for citigas, i heard of the flame being blown off. but doesn't matter. what you need to do is just off the water tap, then on it again, and the flame will come on again. Secondly, try to install it at a place where its not so windy and thirdly, the new heater are better designed so that it will not get blown off so easily.

its more like instant water heater instead of storage. no waiting time, or maybe few seconds..... to me, the most i wait is like 10 seconds? not very long..... but take note that the water heater will auto off after 15mins. this is preventive measure so that if one day your tap is leaking, then you are not wasting gas + water. So, all you need to do is just off the tap then on it again... then there will be flame again to heat your water.

You can go and look at it at city gas gallery. I never been but there might be some demonstration for you. its definitely much better than electric instant heater that the water is never warm enough. Better than storage heater when you have to wait 15 mins for the water to heat up, especially in the morning when rushing to go work. so gas heater is the best option....

Hmm.. Off the tap and on again? You mean u don't have to wrap a towel around yourself and run to the heater at the service yard to activate it again?
