Daveyap 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2011 Hi DaveYou know, the more i read the forum (other topics) with pictures of "different" sofa set, it is difficult for me to differentiate the different type of sofa.I would like to post some picture of my current sofa bought few years ago.I would like your honest feedback on whether it is worth then. Subsequently when i purhcase another sofa set, i will be more careful then. Can you let me know which part of the sofa that i can post here for you to look at with sharp eyes ? Take photos of all those parts that have shown signs of fair wear and tear. Also, please take a photo of your finger pressing down on the leather sofa as I would like to see the crease marks made by your finger. If you can do so without damaging your leather sofa, please also take photos of those parts of the leather where you can flip back the front to expose the back layer. I need to see the back of the leather hide as I can then more or less determine if it is split leather or top grain. However, please note that very often we forget that even though the leather is top grain throughout the sofa, the sofa is usually made from different parts of the cowhide, so if the leather hide is taken from the belly where the hide is relatively thinner than say the back, it will suffer greater wear and tear. The full leather office chair that I am seating on is a typical example. I have determined that they had thankfully used the stronger parts of the hides for the seating portion but I think they used the thinner parts of the hide for the armrests even though it is subjected to lots of contact. I can start to see tiny natural tears in the leather on the armrests.

Daveyap 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2011 (edited) please post photos on the forum - so there are people can see the differences after 4 years usage. I am sorry i do not know how to put images in this forum. These are the photos of Kalimantan's $7000 Full Leather Sofa. This is what we meant by Full Top Grain Cowhide Leather. Kalimantan did not even maintain his leather sofa regularly and yet you don't see it falling apart, not even one teeny weeny bit. I especially like photo No. 4 as it showed very nice contrasting leather grain patterns. You will not get this level of quality leather sofa if your budget is $3K & below. It is always far better to just bear the one time pain of getting a really good quality leather sofa rather than go through the hassle of finding a new leather sofa all over again and disposing of your sub standard leather soda in under 3 years. Daveyap 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2011 I am a newbie when it comes to attaching photos in the forum. Let me email the Admin to try another approach as it seems I can open and view it, but only from my PC. I decided to use photobucket instead of waiting for Admin to reply me. It seems I am only allowed to attach 5 photos per post. Here are the remaining 2 photos of the 7 photos that Kalimantan sent me.

Jeanius 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2011 Hi Thanks.I only polish once a year when nearing to cny time ...Beautiful leather. Like what Dave says, that's what we meant by Full Top Grain Cowhide Leather. A fine genuine cowhide leather needs little maintenance.
kalimantan 6 Report post Posted December 14, 2011 if i want to polish, how often should i do it ?I am thinking of getting the polish materials from the vendor that does polishing ...so my maid can polish it monthly ?
Daveyap 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2011 if i want to polish, how often should i do it ?I am thinking of getting the polish materials from the vendor that does polishing ...so my maid can polish it monthly ?Getting your maid to polish your leather monthly may not be a good idea as too much of a good thing can create problems of its own especially when it involves leather. Your leather sofa did great with just an annual polish so it is fine to maintain that routine. The professional leather cleaning companies' leather conditioners and cleaners are nothing special so you don't really need to use them but I order mine online from U.K.
