GrandReno 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2011 Hi everyoneI've enquired around on LED downlights. I noticed some use the small bulb with 3 or 4 tiny LEDs inside, commonly known as MR16. While others use the square casing type where you can't open to see what's inside. How do you decide which is appropriate for your living room and bedrooms? Some say the MR16 gives more direct and concentrated lighting, more suitable as spot light, so they recommend the square casing type instead. But I've seen some pictures of MR16 being used as main lighting also.Appreciate your views. Thank u.

Thank u.MR16 is the base model number. You require a transformer to power up a MR16 base model LED/Halogen light = means more maintenance. When you don't know your bulb spoil or transformer.GU10 base LED are the direct ones. These bulbs are spotlight, just a different base model. Square casing is the common model to house them. Thank u.Hi, Grandreno,MR16 spotlight and square downlight have different optics and beam angles, each designed to create its own distinctive lighting effect. Both types are suitable options depending on your lighting preference. For most small to medium size rooms with ceiling lighting or cove light, MR16 spotlight provides adequate coverage and create contrasting and dramatic lighting effect to enhance features in your room. For the square downlight that has a beam angle of min. 120deg, it illuminates a larger area but makes the space look more flat and dull at the same time. If you have a huge room and do not intend to install too many lights, consider downlights with wide beam angle.Generally, lights run on external power supply last longer than those with inbuilt power supply such as GU10 and E27 base.Hope this info helps.
