Possible For Led Downlights To Cost $110-120?

Recommended Posts

i dun know what your intention in, but for me, I only do LED for my Living room, Kitchen area. Even in the living room, i do have the option of turning on the hidden tubes in the false celling to create a type of nice ambience to the room.

The reason I put LED only in Kitchen and living room is that these are places that the light will be on most of the time. The LED i got is those high intensity ones with 6w slightly dimmer then the common 2x13W to light up the area. Thus, they will actually save more electricity in the long run. I also pick LED for these area because PLC will actually dim over time and I kinda hate changing tubes every 4 years.....LED on the other hand is not suppose to dim and is suppose to last much much longer (however, I only used it for a year, so can't tell if this claim is true).

So my suggestion is to determine that you want before making the decision.....

Yes, good choice. I was also thinking of using LEDs in places where I will use the lights often. I suppose the effect of LEDs will be different in that the light will be softer and not as bright as PLC ones? I like my living room to be bright so that reading is not an issue. Hence the guy recommended me PLC ones.

So far for your living room and kitchen, with LEDs, you do find the brightness ok?

You mentioned "2x13W" above. It's PLC right? I've compared 7W/10W LED vs 2x14W PLC. The difference is noticeable. The PLC lights look more "brilliant" and easier on the eyes if I do reading.

Actually, LEDs are the ones that will also dim over time. But they can generally last longer than PLC.

I got the electrician to modify the light holder to e27. So I can change to those plc with e27 if I like... :sport-smiley-004:

Led light are directional, so I got something like one shown here http://www.dealextreme.com/p/e27-1210-6w-84-led-588-lumen-6500k-light-bulb-white-85-265v-ac-35829 it's very bright as it focus the bright to a direction. Problem is it's too bright for the study so I did not install it in study,

Yes, led does dimmed over tine, but I would suspect it have better performance to plc....but I guess only time will tell....

Wow, looks bright. :) This one is more for directional lighting like for spot light purposes, not for down light right....

Oh it's the electrician who does the modification. If I don't modify and I wish to change to PLC lights next time, the whole light holder or casing cannot be used anymore huh?

So far, all your LEDs doing ok?

Mine is the normal square down light similar to the one shown below

He only remove the plc balast and change the head to e27....this is quite a standard screw in ligh bulb interface so I can switch back to plc with e27 if I want. Using only half a year, so far ok....

Actually if you are a little handy with tool, you can modify yourself....but for me wife don't trust my skills....

yup. Mine is energy savings. Didn't go into LED because too expensive.

We thought of buying LED at the first beginning because we thought energy savings = LED.

Since our ultimate purpose is energy savings, then just go for energy saving bulbs. Hard to afford LED lights during renovation period. Buy one or two can be considered but not for the whole house.
