ZondaR 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2011 I am currently looking at doing a timber deck for outdoors. I was recently quoted the same price for Chengal and Okan wood. Apparently, Okan is a Marine wood and is highly resilient to weather. Furthermore the grain is much more beautiful than Chengal. Does anybody have any experience with this type of wood? folwer 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2011 Chengal is one of the strongest and lasting wood around. When I was in the marine fish hobby, Chengai wood frame is the best type possible to use, it can be used to support those giant 6 foot marine tanks that can weight tons. However, Chengai has the issue of staining floors and wall. So make sure it's not leaning against anything that you would like it to stain....Not really sure about Okan wood as I have not look at it before....

However, recently I came across this type of Okan wood that is used to built ships and the grain is so much nicer. Did some research and found out that Okan doesn't rot and super hard... only worry is that will it split
