Our First Home Reno Project

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

We recently bought a resale private apartment and are about to embark on our home reno project before we move in. The place is pretty old and in need of an upgrade. Wifey and I have seen a few IDs and are close to settling on one (hopefully in the next few days). I will provide the quote in the next entry and perhaps can get some feedback from more experienced folks on whether the quote looks reasonable.

Unfortunately, I don't have a floor plan to share just yet as the previous owner's weren't able to provide one. Any ideas on where I can get one for a private resale apartment?

As promised, this is the quote provided by one of the IDs we have approached. Would appreciate if those more experienced in the process can comment on whether this looks reasonable or are we being overcharged?

I got some photos of the current place...

From the living room, looking towards dining area and doors to bedrooms (wifey really hates the door colour!)

The living room

Master bedroom (planning to change the flooring and the window aircon)

Only got these photos for the moment. None of the kitchen (which needs the most work). Will upload when I get time later.

Hi sgsam

Welcome to renotalk and good luck with your reno.

I'm not sure about the prices, best get the ones who have more info to comment (coz the previous 3 apartments I renovated were brand new condo's). Your condo management should be able to give you a copy of the floor plan, easier to plan around and ask for comments that way.

you can apply the floor plan thru BCA also.

http://www.bca.gov.sg/BuildingInfoPlans/request_copy_plans.html

1.Apply online $20 plus within 5 working days they will reply you.

2.Once you get the reply from BCA , you need to go down personally to BCA at maxwell to choose the floorplan/drawings you want . abt $25 per copy. best is to get your ID to go down with you.

3. Need to show BCA your option to purchase to prove that you are the owner.

I got problem getting my floor plan with the previous owner and MCST . hope this help ..

Hi Hin,

That is great information. Thanks v much. I'll see if I have any luck with the building management. If not, I'll be down to the BCA.

Off to see tiles @ Hafary tomorrow. I have read from others that this is the place to go for good tiles at a reasonable price. Hopefully be able to get some samples/pics to give a sense of what we are looking to do.

Are there any other places we should check out for tile selection?

Wifey and I were discussing the clothesline yesterday and given the high ceiling we have, I got to think of something that is easy to hang the clothes - I was thinking something retractable. I came across this company, Ezzi Living, and their automated (EZ Bella) and manual (EZ Lift) retractable clotheslines.

You can check out the pics and product demo video on their website - www.ezziliving.biz

I need to take some measurements to see whether it will work for our laundry.

Has anybody had installed/used either of these?

I noticed that mrspiglet has used another of their products. You can see it on her t-blog (http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=18317&st=800)
